THAI BAHT GAINS 31% TODAY???

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. It's been around the 34-35 baht to the roller for the past few weeks.

I haven't seen it as low as 28 in a while.

when you say you are not a world economic guru I would say that is pretty obvious by the fact that you interpret paying more baht for a dollar as representing a 31% gain in the Baht

SE Asia, and indeed the world, may be entering a 1930's style "race to the bottom". China's stock market has lost all credibility recently and now they are devaluing the Yuan to the tune of 4.4%. Vietnam and Kazakhstan have both devalued their currencies by 1% and 4.5% respectively in the past few days.
The Taiwan dollar, Singapore dollar, Russian ruble, Thai baht, South Korean won, Peruvian sol, S. African rand, Chilean peso, Colombian peso, Brazilian real are all in trouble as they have a high export exposure and export competitiveness with China.
The Chinese stock market bubble started to implode back on July 12th and it isn't over yet.
