techies versus brickys

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

yeah 3D house printing looks like it could be the next step, while its good for single projects, im not sure of its practicality yet for like housing estates etc, but yeah it shows promise,

This machine can lay thousands of bricks a day I believe. Its not difficult to lay bricks for project housing in WA. I believe it will happen Jamie, one of Australia's biggest companies is developing it. You know that 40% of existing jobs will be gone within 10 years.
They say that code writers will be the new trades people and that learning to write code in not difficult. Perhaps you should learn to write code Jamie and you can programme the brick laying machines Jamie.

in australia it might work, but not in the UK youve got no chance, ill be retired before technology takes over my job mate
you think companies are going to buy these big machines/robots? or rent them? if it does happen it will only be the super big companies that can afford them, and do you think they can afford to put one on each of their jobs? moving them around from job to job? what about all the smaller building firms? you see, never going to happen,
Building firms like men, because their cheap, flexible and easily disposable when not needed, thats why you will rarely see any firms with blokes on the books anymore, theyre all self employed on price work

You won't be out of a job, Jamie. Check out the vidz on Youtube. They still need people to do the important bits.
