teaching english

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I guess trying to teach Korean didn’t work out for you?
Is it possible to obtain a real degree?
Pretty rare to see a Korean-American without a degree these days, especially one born in ‘murica.

It’s hard getting work today even with a degree…
Do you have any special skills or can you start your own business?

As cam nivag mentioned you’ve spent a great deal of time playing the sexpat.
Maybe you should look in the mirror first or lighten up before you call one of us “to [sic] fat and ugly”.
Jung shin cha-luh and good luck.

In that case, you might want to think very, very hard about moving to Cambodia to teach English. Asia is incredibly racist when it comes to hiring practices. Whites are doted on, Hispanics may or may not get away with being treated as white, Asians will be treated as local (no matter where they were born) and receive local salaries, and black folks are at the absolute bottom of the totem. It's not impossible to get a teaching job if you aren't white but without a professional teaching qualification and background - you can expect to earn diddly-squat in the worst schools in the country, being treated like shit by just about everyone. And before you ask, no, it's not right but it is the way it is.

^^The world is like that when coming to languages. One of my best friends is Mexican but one of those blonde hair blue eyed Mexicans. Tried getting a job teaching Spanish, didn't matter that he taught Spanish in MEXICO, the U.S. schools wouldn't have him over any "native brown person".
