Taser Guns

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The real Tasers are on sale on Amazon for $319 but I am sure what is on sale there is some sort of clone. Seen stun guns on Ebay for 20 Dollars....
I'm pretty sure there are shops here that sell them but never mind, If it's illegal it's illegal.

Since I wanted the pepper spray for the dog that used to run after me very morning and try and bite me, I didn't think it would be worth spending $100 on

The spray worked the first time, he hasn't chased me since.

The taser might be an idea for his owner, though.
Escalation, escalation.

Let's change Paradise. NOT!
Yeah, how dumb would it be to just let the dog bite me. See any Khmer let a dog bite him?

Are you from Arkansas? :D

Our very presence changes this place, and I doubteven many Khmers suggest it's paradise.

Ok. On to the next question: Can stun guns be legally bought here by barangs?

Where did you buy the pepper spray? I've heard it's about $8 a bottle. True or not?

you can buy pepper spray in pharmacies and convenience stores.
not stunners are not legal but no one cares.
if you get robbed here, you will be blindsided or outnumbered and have no time to pull a weapon.
as mentioned, a walking stick is highly practical.

really though, there are very few reasons to be fearful even if you are out partying.

safer than USA by far i would think.

I'm pretty sure there are shops around here that sell them for $20 or so. It's just a matter if you buy one (or can) buy one or not. I guess this is a question for Kiwi or some of the guys who have been here awhile a really know what's what.
Oh you can. But not a real trademarked Taser for that sort of money.

I don't carry anything around here but I also do not dress or act like I am worth attacking or robbing. I only carry enough money in several pockets for what I need at that time be it money for food shopping or out for a beer.
I don't wear gold chains or anything expensive and I have a couple or silver rings. ( had them for years not large or expensive)
I have had my phone stolen twice and a demand for cash with assistance of a knife from 3 lady boys ( chucked my small change notes in the air and bolted. about $6)
I don't recommend carrying a knife you will probably end up dead or in jail if you use one or get it taken off you and used against you.

Pepper spray for dogs sounds like a smart idea.

I would recommend 3. Common sense with a dash of caution around holiday periods.

They seem easy enough to get but sellers usually keep them hidden, so they are probably illegal. Almost anything you can think of that can be used as a weapon is, so while you can, for example, get a machete legally and easily you can also be charged with carrying an illegal weapon if caught using it in a confrontation. If you or your house are searched on unrelated matters and weapons are found these will be used as evidence that you are a criminal.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
