Tap Water...

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Mine just came.

Not sure why there is so many numbers. I think sometimes they can speak ok English, but probably easier to just get your maid to arrange it and fill them up before you're out.

I think you will need at least 3-5 bottles for one month. ($5 deposit/each bottle + $1 for refills)
Thanks FS, appreciated.

Think you'll find Ezekiel was born a bit before that. I know these things are important to you.

I had some tonight after boiling it and putting it in the freezer and it tastes kinda funny.

Have you ever drank the tap water here? In the provinces or otherwise?
The Drink water in Phnom Penh's reservoirs is supposedly one of the best in the world. Apparently one of the few positive remnants of imperialism the French left behind.

What happens from when the water leaves the reservoir until it leaves your faucet seems to be the big issue. Most Khmers I know either boil or use he 20 litre jugs (as I do),

Get a filter if you want.

For those wanting to use a filter try this. Put some food colouring in the water on the supply side and see if your filter removes it. IT WILL NOT REMOVE IT. Now imagine if that food colouring was DDT or some liquid horticulture spray that was being used kilometres away and got into the supply.
This could happen anywhere in the world. What is your point?[/quote]

A very simple point,, If you want to see if your filter is working ,, Do as I just described. And you are right. it can be done in any part of the world.

And let one assume, for the purposes of argument, that it is not. What should one do?

It's like saying, 'There is injustice'... but not suggesting a cure.

The tap water is taken from the Mekong before being treated and piped around town. The system has won awards and is considered one of the best in the world. It was rebuilt in the 90s after severe neglect and misuse all but destroyed the previous infrastructure.

Yup, but of course it is held in reserve before distribution, and the role of the French Engineering Consortium Safege should not be discounted.

That's why it's a good thing they're treating the water in the supply and not relying on cheap home filters which mostly just remove mineral content and large particle. Everyone being overly paranoid about the PP water is amusing, considering stuff like this:

http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/b ... acceptable
At a recent Ministry of Environment conference, an official broke the seal of his
Eurotech water bottle, drank a glassful, then detected a strange taste. He discovered
to his horror that insects and larvae were floating in the bottle. "And this
was at the Ministry of Environment!" he exclaimed.

Although sick for two weeks, he continues to drink Eurotech water. "I'm sure
it was a fraudulent bottle," he said.
Two out of three (68%) of the samples from the city's bottled-water factories were
"unacceptable," according to a Ministry of Health (MoH) survey conducted
last year. Seven per cent were "acceptable," while a quarter were "suspect."
So while all of the studies have shown the city water to be fine, and all of the studies have shown most of the bottled water to be suspect or worse... you still suggest bottled over tap!?

Thought you would already know the cure ,but for you here's the answer. Just don't tell anyone.
