Swedes stuck in KoW
Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
gotta be better being stuck in Cambo than rotting in some shitehole hostel in UK somewhere
and of course, if the guy has DVT and can't travel on a plane then the Covid makes no difference, DVT still there even without Covid, unless I'm mistaken.
Unless of course he was planning to get a Capitol Tours bus to Stockholm or something, do they even offer that fare?

Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
sure, I hear the hostels in downtown Malmo are great places to hang out in these days
Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
Huck,
1st, I hope your leg gets better.
Beyond that your post still just doesn't add up.
Ok, lots of stuff happened, your 30 and healthy, and you didn't get your health insurance renewed - I can understand that. But Why would that be the government's responsibility?
You mention Australia's travel ban. Australia announced that all citizens/residents should return home back in March. I assume that would be when you broke your leg and it was a compound fracture and thus the concern about infection. That was in March. We are now 5 months later. Even if still on crutches you can travel. I've travelled on crutches with a connection trans-atlantic twice in my life - not the most enjoyable trip but I did it just fine. Your younger. And I'd point out that the real risk around DVT and a broken leg is the immobilization - which is true whether your on an airplane or not.
But Australia isn't where you say you want to go. Sweden is? Sweden doesn't have any quotas for returning citizens. KLM and Korean air are partner airlines and KLM flies to Stockholm from Amsterdam. So that flight has been available since the beginning of June. So its tough to understand exactly why your claiming you can't fly home to Sweden until October.
Beyond that, it is NOT a government's responsibility to look after sick people that choose to live in another country. If you want to retire to Tim-Buck-Too good for you. But why would any government spend resources to ensure your health while you live there? Seems to me that with Coronavirus, most governments are quite busy at home trying to support their local health services.
So you can say I'm hateful or not properly sympathetic to your cause. From where I'm sitting I'm just pointing out that this doesn't all add up and appears more to be a result of poor decision-making and wishful thinking (the part about the government should be taking care of you in Cambodia). Good luck getting home.

Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
Thanks for you speedy judgemental reply. For all those reading, I am Bec. I am Australian. I need western health facilities. I broke my leg in June, we had planned to leave approx in early July, when flights were being confirmed and not cancelled as frequently, that had a better price etc. I need another surgery in 5 months. I was told my medical professionals to do not fly for 2-3 months because of risk of DVT.
Also, I did not let my insurance lapse by choice. They were unable to proceed with my insurance because of the ‘do not travel ban’. Some people have different circumstances, influence and money. Others don’t. I have no influence over insurance companies, what they do and don’t do.
Before you continue to have judgements and be keyboard warriors. Perhaps think, what if this my my young adult son or daughter. This isn’t a sob story. This is reality. I would rather the elderly get the medical attention they need, to save their lives, than return to my home and be stuck here for years. This way, I know, I have assisted to save another life. That is why we published the article. Read between the lines.
I don’t sit around with a fucking joint in my mouth. I don’t take anything illegal. I enjoy a beer, but who doesn’t. I enjoy a nice glass of wine, but who doesn’t. I enjoy going to bed at 10pm and waking up early. I don’t have mattered hair or go to raves. I don’t go to bars daily or clubs. I’ve worked hard. I’m sure you have too. A lot of my generation are entitled, disrespectful and rude. I am well aware of this. I don’t even talk to most other Aussies here, because of this factor. I just want have a decent conversation. Not all 20-30 year olds are entitled or ignorant. Ignorance is coming from this blaming mentality this thread seems to have.
I spend my time, learning to walk again, since my leg broke in three places and my ankle. I spend my time, planning to go home or Europe or Thailand where I can get accurate medical treatment and prepare for another surgery. I do not need to send you a photo of my leg. I do not need to prove anything to you lot. You just take the piss out of me and think I’m a wolly.
So you can call me a snowflake all you like, you can call me names and shame me. You can call me ignorant or stupid. I have been called worse in the line of work I do. But hey, to be honest, the only ones here that are horrible, are the people spreading hateful words for a situation you have no idea about. I know I am intelligent, smart, filled with courage. I know I will get through this.
I did not run away from my country to live as an expat. I left my country for 12 months for a working holiday visa in Norway. I will return and I will remember the things you lot have said to make me feel insignificant behind your keyboard. I would never judge a person from a news article or try to make them want to jump off a bridge because it appears, if I am correct, the only thing that this being said, is judgemental, hateful speech. Making my mental health worse. Thank you for that.
How about responding with, how is yours mental health? How are you coping with the broken leg? Everyone’s going through a tough situation at the moment, happy these young adults were able to bring to light the sick Swedes being stuck here. They are trying to make a difference. Life can be hard but you will get through this. How are you planning to leave Cambodia, can I offer any assistance online? How about that?
I did not choose to be stuck in a the middle of a pandemic. If I knew this would happen, I would have never left my country earlier this year. I just want to get somewhere safe, where I can get accurate medical assistance.
I am going to request that this thread is deleted by administrators after I post this comment. These words you are saying are defamation to my name and the work I do in Australia. If it does not get deleted, I will take the matter further.
Regards.

I CAN NOT TRAVEL BECAUSE I HAVE A BROKEN LEG. I DO NOT WANT TO GET DVT. I am not a snowflake. I have worked hard all my life. I can enter Sweden. I have a residence permit for Norway. I have to wait until it’s safe to travel for my leg. The complete ignorance in this thread. I know many have it worse off than us, but believe me, Kampot isn’t filled with junkies and hippies. Why the fuck would be do a go fund me page? The whole article is meant to spark change, for the sick and elderly stuck here. There are people sick, in need, and the government isn’t doing anything to support them. Flights are still cancelled or extremely expensive. Don’t believe what you see on google or online. Why don’t you spend hours on the phone to the airlines to see who can accomodate my health needs during a global pandemic. Why do you get stuck without electricity on an island when the boarders close and you have no idea what is happening. Why don’t you break your leg when your medical insurance lapsed because of the ‘do not travel ban’ in Aus and spend thousands of USD to fix your leg. Hence, the no money. No empathy here from you guys, just hate. Spread it somewhere else.

It’s been 5 months! While it may have been difficult to get flights out in April and May, lately there have been flights pretty much daily to Seoul and Taipei from which they could get connections home.
You can see hundreds of “stuck” tourists hanging out in Kampot bars with not a worry in the world. Feel sorry for the paying relatives who believe in those sob stories.
I have played Rugby all my life and have broken more bones in my body than the average “stuck“ fuckface in Kampot (looking at you, snowflake) smokes joints in a month. The article said that you snowflakes are stuck because allegedly there are no flights.
I had loads of friends and clients fly out and back into Cambodia (!!!) in the past two months. Yes, flights are a bit more expensive but there are flights EVERY DAY, snowflake.
Also, you can easily fly a few days after a broken leg has been put into a cast, so stop sobbing, snowflake!
You let your insurance laps? Fucking dumb move, snowflake!

Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
so, you could have left march, april, may. Australia announced the travel ban in March, so why did you hang on in Cambodia?...I broke my leg in June, we had planned to leave approx in early July
and
Your stuck in Cambodia, long way from Norway....I left my country for 12 months for a working holiday visa in Norway.
PS: yours and anyone's goverment is NOT responsible for you.
Personally i dont really give a shit how ur coping wit ur mental health, call me cold / callus but thats the reality,
why are you posting here? Expect to solicit someones sort of
"oh poor boy",,,,,"
Anyway, to quote Hardy, "another fine mess you got yourself into"

Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
Did you try to apply for a medical visa for Thailand? Some top notch care there if you can afford or have insurance. And no need to fly.Chroniclesofbecany wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 1:01 pm Thanks for you speedy judgemental reply. For all those reading, I am Bec. I am Australian. I need western health facilities. Re: Swedes stuck in KoW
Not buying it when you said you couldn't buy health insurance as my 72 year old mother didn't just renew or extend her cover she had to get a new one as the company she went with only did max 90 day cover and we wanted it extended for 6 months as we knew this whole covid thing was gonna drag on.
So ... no... don't delete this thread just because someone made bad choices. Let's discuss those poor choices and let this discussion serve as some form of lesson for future reference when people do a quick search on the pitfalls of letting your insurance lapse.
Edited to add: I keep mentioning my mothers age as this is relevant... She is a higher risk due to a minor pre-existing medical condition and a higher risk because of her age. YET SHE STILL GOT A NEW POLICY!
Insurances companies don't often refuse to cover a risk... but what they will do is pump up the premiums to cover that risk. This is why 18 year olds can get insurance to drive a Rolls Royce.
And if this one point in your story has a huge hole in it it brings into question the validity of the rest!

Simon Sinek covered this attitude in an episode of inside Quest with Tom Bilyeu. Watch it ..... he covers the "millennial" question and why they are like they are.Chroniclesofbecany wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 1:01 pm
