Is substance addiction a myth?
Is substance addiction a myth?
What is the "definitive definition" of addiction?
Who wrote the rules on defining addiction?
Is the "addiction industry" of doctors, clinics, hospitals and rehabs just an elaborate conspiracy to make profit from the hapless?
Why can't people "decide" to drink 15 drinks everyday?
Why can't people "decide" to shoot heroin once in awhile?
Is there such an animal as an alcoholic? What pattern of drinking determines if someone is an "alleged" alcoholic?

Winston Churchill said, "Have a cigar, a glass of brandy, pet your dog and get a blow job daily for a productive and fulfilling life"

You have a great deal of self reflection to do. We'll leave you to it. Best of luck.dagenham wrote:What is the "definitive definition" of addiction?

3. Because it's more interesting for that circumcised, narcissistic, insane, child-murdering Dog that way.
4. See 3. above
5. You're it.

You're addicted to deciding if people are addicts or not.
Re: Is substance addiction a myth?
There's no short definition, as it cover everything from gambling to computer games to nicotine. Being unable to give up, despite wanting to is a sort of good test. And withdrawal symptoms.dagenham wrote:What is the "definitive definition" of addiction?

Elaborate conspiracy? - That's silly.

I think the "despite wanting to" is the part Dagenham has trouble with... he thinks anyone doing something to excess because they enjoy it is an addict.

I believe there are addictive genes or personalities and I've known quite a few. I've got a good friend Dave back in San Francisco who is a serial addict. 1st he had a problem w/cocaine and gave it up. Immediately he started drinking too much and stopped. Switched to pot, his construction business suffered and he quit. Next was gambling, he was betting on everything. He even lost $10K on Pre-Season Football. Who the f*ck bets on pre-season football ? He gave that up. Next was sex. It had to be 2 or 3 girls a day for Davie which was no problem for him because he looked like George Clooney, only handsomer. He gave that up (mostly) because his hot wife was going to leave him and her parents are old and crazy rich. Now he's into fitness and body building, has overdone that, become massive and looks terrible. I think he's he's doing 'roids and or HGH too, because his head has nearly doubled in size. He bought a couple vitamin and supplement stores and that's his life now. When he's threatened with kidney failure, I can't imagine where he'll jump next. I personally have ingested every drug known to man and have been completely unsuccessful getting addicted to any. It's gotta be the genes.

Its Genetics and surroundings. I can smoke 1 cigarette or 10 cigarettes or smoke none. I can drink not drink it doesnt really effect me. smoked pot for 4 or 5 years...move to cambodia totally forgot all about it. I did prefer smoking over drinking back in states but towards the last 2 years my highs ended in me being paranoid as fuck and being a vegetable on the couch with my guitar.
Also not to knock the old guys here but nobody respects an old pot smoker. We respect the alcoholics much more...cause theirs always a story behind it. Vietnam 71 saw my friend get blown to chunks. The bitch took the kids and fucked my brother!
Wheres the story behind the pot smoker?? I'm a free lance journalist for a human rights newspaper? I was the county hacky sack champion in 1994. how gay.
Me being a light weight in drinking. i will definitely say the alcohol in this country has to be fake. I'm 70 kilos and a 3 beer queer. So for me to knock down 4 or 5 scotches and not even have the slightest buzz means somethings wrong.

Tomorrow, knock down 4 or 5 with an empty stomach and you'll see how 'Fake' the Scotch is. In one way or another I've been in the booze biz all my life. I've even bought bottles that looked extremely sketchy with the seal broken and clear tape over it (at the big market in SHV Samadura). I was expecting pure bullshit, but it was always authentic. They put about half the alcohol in drinks here than I'm used to, but IMO the only thing "fake" is that screwdriver you bought the bargirl.
