Streets 51 and 172 looking worse than ever?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Streets 51 and 172 looking worse than ever?

Post by shnoukieBRO »

Just arrived in Penh after Siem Reap and what a shock.
Filthy streets and rotting rubbish...Dead pubs full of scrawny sick looking people. Gangs of dodgy looking Africans, and a weirdly empty in the back part yet pumping music fronted Sorya mall.
No real reason left to explore these slum like areas.

Agree.

Street 172 near Norodom is a disgrace. It's been like that for months. The garbage collection is now just the fresh top layer, leaving the bottom layer still there. It needs properly cleaning but of course nobody will do it.

Agreed. Never was really all that nice but has really hit the depths now. No longer a place to be day or night. That whole intersection at night has been taken over by Africans.

Plenty of decent areas in Phnom Penh why explore the slum like areas? Even 174 street which is close to the slum like areas mentioned is better, go there.

I'm in PP right now. You guys complaining about garbage is like describing the UK blackout as "Apocalyptic". I don't mean any offense. Two weeks ago they came to pickup our garbage for the first time in a month and a half, they took one look at it and started to leave. I asked them if they were going to take it and they said no it was a disgusting mess, I pointed out that they hadn't come in six weeks and maybe that had something to do with the mess, they left.
I love Sihanoukville
Side note: if anyone needs rat meat ours are pretty well fattened up, it's "on the hoof" but it's free
up to you...

Phnom Penh looks her best at night, like the old slag she is.

I love PP, btw.

And why can't my African brethren hang out here if they want to?

Guess I'll hit the other streets then.

Just a pity to see once fun streets go slum like. Maybe weather and low season don't help. Or the regular iffy clientele.
