My Street This Afternoon (Phnom Penh's Flash Flood)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Water still rising.

Add a car going much faster than necessary...

And this is what happens!

Poor guy had to retrieve the helmet - I didn't know that helmets float until today.

That is a full size bike.

The new 'wave surfer' bike.

All you need is people to drive their Lex about 3 times faster than they should.

Still looking for barang? Tuk Tuk sir?

Image
Now where's that can of Start Ya Bastard?

Image
Not much else to do other than watch the motos getting swamped.

This girl managed to get enough speed to knock one over that was well out of the deep stuff.

Image
The rare Phnom Penh giant green jellyfish was spotted.

Happy 4th of July suckers!

Shortly after this was taken it was bumper to bumper for the whole street - gridlock.

Get a cut anywhere under the water line and you'll be sorry.

^ Unless you wash it with soap, of course.
The cedar roasted asparagus has good chew. I don't know how to enjoy it, so I'll Instagram it instead.

First time my bike has stopped due to water since I bought it.

This was on St. 240

Most of PC Market was under 1m of water at one stage.

Got 2 cuts on my shin, Olmeca tequila sterilised them (painful).

Cheers BKL!

That's some serious water Vlad, I'm so glad I didn't need to go anywhere this afternoon. I just waded out to get some beers.

Hmmm... my 98' TTR made it through above the knee high water.

Just out of interest how high does the water have to be to stall a bike? Does it get in via the exhaust, or the air intake?

My bike knowledge isn't amazing.

My neighbor's house below me had one foot of water. Neighbors said no houses had flooded in this area in 10 years.

Exhaust is no problem as long as the motor is running. My experience is that you run out of spark first, the lead or spark plug get wet and it's game over short-term. Only happened to me once in 3 years so far.
