Stop Bag Snatching

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

You are going to get scammed by people who say their bag was snatched.

There is a need to be honest about what really goes on, so new people are warned, and can take precautions. There are too many do-gooders who say Cambodia is just like any other country. Start being honest. If you dont know, listen to others.

In Cambodia, criminals work in gangs. Tuk tuk drivers work with motorbike riders who snatch bags. They let the motorbike rider know they have a soft target, and have a pre-arranged street to go down slowly. In many cases the police are also in on it. Anyone who gets their bag snatched, get the registration number of the motorbike if possible. Get the registration number of the tuk tuk. If possible take photos of the registration numbers. If possible take photos of the drivers. If you start posting registration numbers and photos, things will have to change. You could act like a ____ tourist and insist on a photo of a tuk tuk driver before starting out, and one of the tuk tuk with the registration number. Send it by email or to facebook, so when they steal your phone you still have the photo.

This happens so often it is a good opportunity for a set up with a hidden camera. Get a defenseless looking girl to come out of the airport with a bag that can be easily snatched, and catch a tuk tuk. Have hidden cameras and film it all. Cambodian authorities will take action when this goes public.

There was a recent post about somebody secretly filming police scamming people in Sihanoukville. There was another one about secretly filming the scam when crossing the border. Bag snatching should be next. That is how it can really be addressed.
## I thought I knew all the answers, but they changed all the questions. ##

Don't carry a bag. If you must carry your phone don't put it in leg or back pockets. Make them grab your balls to rob you. If you're a lady then your male companion is a walking cupboard that shits money, you don't need a bag.

Don't carry a bag, don't have a smartphone, don't go to Cambodia, don't... It's sure that if you do nothing, nothing will happen.

When I carried my computer bag, I do it always cross-body, it does't prevent bag snatching,
but its makesit more difficult.
There are people who cannot imagine that there are other ways of life than their own life.

I'm with Bingham on this one. I see so many senseless twats walking around with there camera or bag casually tossed over their shoulder like they were in Paris or something. Snatching them blind would be easy.

Wake the fuck up! Get street smart. Go home with your shit!

Clearly no one read the GoFundMe link. I'm aware of all of this already and took all precautions. If you would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated. If all you have are nasty words and sassy comments there's no need to put them here. Please be respectful as it's traumatic enough without being harrassed online.

You can't help some people. The best you can do is advise them to get insurance. Tourists will be tourists no matter where they are visiting and they have always been and will always be easy targets.

Like I said I know thos already. If you read the GoFundMe you would see that most insurances don't cover theft from vehicles.

So, you are asking me to donate to a potential future tourist; in order to protect them from their own stupidity?
