Stolen Valor

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It disgusts me that guys lay their lives on the line, and some tosser wannabe is out and about pretending to be one of them.
Water quenches the thirst, alcohol releases the truth.

It might not be nice but I would not exactly rate it as the world's biggest problem at a time when some tosser wannabe pretends to be the president of the most powerful country in the world.

Angeles City, where I lived from 1997 to2002, had 5000 retired US military living there. though the numbers were dropping rapidly, as they drank themselves to death. They portrayed themselves as voluntary exiles; war heroes who were betrayed the pinko peaceniks back home. They even had a photo of Jane Fonda laminated to the urinal in one of the VFW clubs.
When I got to know them better, I discovered that the majority had never been to Vietnam. They had worked in non-combat roles at the neighboring Clark Airbase, which was closed by the Philippine govt. in 1992-maintenance, Armed Forces Network, RnR etc.
There were also large numbers of expats who claimed to be ex-CIA, SEALS, ex-British or Australian SAS and so on.
When the US was allowed to resume military exercises at the old base in 1998, a military looking type did the rounds of the bars, claiming he was on a secret mission to find suitable places for the new wave of military to relax. He was given the VIP treatment-free drinks, girls, accommodation.
When the first exercise started, the bars that had feted this guy put up welcoming signs for the new arrivals. They then discovered that all bars had been placed off-limits for the duration of the exercises. The secret operative had already moved on.
