A good one i heard about, and one close to my heart, is the Da Lat potato scam.AE86 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 7:49 pmThere's also a pretty healthy amount of manufacturing going on in Vietnam itself, some legit, some counterfeit. But as said above, the video is from mainland China.juansweetpotato wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 7:03 pm
Far too many posts critical of the posters pov without backing up their criticisms.
I know the viets are famous for labeling counterfeit products which they obtain from Chinese manufacturers. Are you saying the people in the vid are in fact Chinese? Or what?
Da Lat potatoes fetch top prices at the markets in Vietnam.
According to the report, loads of young girls in a factory in HCMC were busily washing the crap chemical soil from cheap Chinese spuds that were vitually toxic, and then packing them with soil from Da Lat.
The potato horror!

OK, I know both Chinese and Vietnamese police uniforms, these are not Vietnamese uniforms.juansweetpotato wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 7:03 pmFar too many posts critical of the posters pov without backing up their criticisms.
Whilst far from fluent, I understand a fair bit of Vietnamese and know Chinese when I hear it.
I have lived in Vietnam for 20+ years, counterfeit beer is not "a problem" here. The real thing is so bloody cheap that you'd have to be stupid to fake it.
I ran a hotel in Cambodia for 9 years, and fake bottled liqueur was not a problem (though granted it might be a problem in the sort of places pineapple frequents.
I thought it was established by now that pineapple is generally clueless, those no backing up of my criticisms; I figured that it was pretty obvious that his claims were tenuous at best to all; admittedly you proved me wrong.

^^I don't assume anything is common sense here anymore, amongst expats and Cambodians alike.

Beer is so dirt cheap to produce and they grow barley in China, so you don't even have to import it. I can't see what you could fake beer with that would cost less in ingredients than just making it.

It's all in the labelling. Is it Budweiser, or is it Chinese chemical beer mimicking American chemical beer.cptrelentless wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 9:38 pm Beer is so dirt cheap to produce and they grow barley in China, so you don't even have to import it. Re: Still enjoying that Bud?
I've twice bought a few cans of Budweiser in the supermarket in Sihanoukville to take back to my room, in Jan 2017 & Feb 2016 , both times , when I've opened the beers, I've had to pour them all down the sink because they all smelt bad as soon as they were opened
I've assumed this was to them being kept far too warm in the supermarket, as they're were all within the use by date on the can itself

Yep, Money is not so much made in making things, but rather branding things. Why sell a bottle of beer for 4 yuan when a can of fake import can be sold for thrice?juansweetpotato wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 9:46 pmIt's all in the labelling. So in this collective group opinion are there any spirits one could be assured that is genuine as labeled?
