? i dont get the idea, you buy a ticket, pack ur bag, carry some $$, an atm card, book ur first nights accommodations via booking.com and go
what else is there about traveling anywhere?

I dont get this new generations style of traveling needing to know EVERYTHING in advance.
no adventure??

Throw away ur smart phone, read a guide book and just DO IT
Yea, you might get ripped off, lost, overpay till you learn but thats all part of it...
I far prefer asking for directions of the locals than looking at maps.me....
i am putting out a new video in a day or two talking about questions i have gotten and criticisms as well as what i have been up to lately.
Not to attack you as maybe i am just Way out of touch but....
Are there really people out there that give a shit??

I love reading AFTER trip travel books/blogs but not ones that come from not having done it..
the video talk about helping other make the decision to teach abroad no matter what country it may be. the video talks about why i want to teach english and why i am making videos about this journey so to say. if you didn't watch it, the video mentions about how i needed a push to take my TEFL and make the jump to teach overseas as well as general information on how to get started and sort of explain my intentions doing so as well. i believe there are plenty of people at least here in the united states that if they just saw someone like them making the leap they would have the courage to do it too. toward the end of the vid i talk about if this channel convinces once person to decide to move somewhere to teach english or even go to cambodia to teach that is the goal. not likes, or subs, or monetization but to just influence people to get out there and do it. the only outcome can be to make cambodia and other developing countries a better place. maybe i am just some dumb kid with a dumb dream or goal but im going to stick with that dumb dream for the foreseeable future. no offense taken btw
HUH:
How does having more bottom feeders that can get themselves thru a tefl and move over to teach English, make Cambodia a better place?

BTW:
People have been getting their tefl degrees for a decades and moving overseas to teach, what ur doing is nothing new, sorry
you are not special or unique
and nope, wont be watching ur video as there is nothing new or interesting for me to waste even 10 minutes on.

Anyway, goodluck, nice to see others doing it instead of just talking about it. :beer3:

you can clearly see in your own comment about coming here to kick my ass? its visibly quoted.
And you're going to teach English????
You're welcome to come back and kick your own lying ass here anytime, James.
See ya, James.
i like how you corrected you're :) but..You're welcome to come back and kick your own lying ass here anytime, James. is completely improper sentence structure if you didn't know that. it makes no sense. although forums typically consist of informal english; the reason why i dont use proper punctuation here, i did point out your improper english because it was genuinely confusing, it was improper structure. i dont think your shining example will be taught in my class though i am sorry buddy lol. i was literally trying to clear up the confusion and you took that as an opportunity to somehow insinuate that i am not qualified? any time you would like to compare academic and career accolades i feel more than confident i would have you beat by more than a long shot.

enjoy your whiskey or three bud seem like you need it.

i really feel sorry for you man but i have a feeling this little feud is giving you a bit of purpose and determination so for what its worth i am glad i can give that to you.

well i guess i am referring to people like me that have a career in tech and have graduated from a California UC and have a lot of money in investments and just want to give back quality English lessons in a developing country. im sorry that you are surrounded by bottom feeders that sounds like a crappy existence. i believe you have already expressed that you are not interested in the channel or teaching in general so i am not so sure why you are still responding. yep i will be there in just over a month and a half already have a few jobs lined up at the bigger international school plus am starting a free program for families that cant afford to pay for traditional classes it will pay for a 25 child class fully funded for 6 months. maybe you can help with some donations to sponsor a lower income family for free english lessons for the second semester? im sure you want to help your local community out am i right?

You are setting yourself up to receive a beating from your grammar you have demonstrated so far. For decades, there have been awful backpackers that were (and still are) hired to teach with no education nor knowledge. I currently work with a few teachers that do not understand the daily material they are trying to teach their kids for the day. So, needless to say, teachers here do not have a good rep.

I believe that any YouTuber that states they do not want attention (not caring about likes, shares, views, etc...) is full of BS. I honestly wish you good luck though.

JamesAlexander89, the median age of the posters on this forum is a little older than yourself. Many did not get their first smartphone until they were in their mid to late 50's and then only use the internet search function when there is free wifi. Old, jaded and not part of the social media frenzy are all badges of honour amongst expats of this generation.

If you have a lot of money in investments as you state, I am sure you will find it easy to make friends when you arrive and not just that you will probably find people that will agree with the motivation of making Cambodia a better place. Just about every bar will have a bell, wring it once or twice and you will be surprised how quickly people start to see things your way.

I just watched your video. Your head and heart are in the right place. Remember your motivations and goals once you've got here, as there's no way you or anyone else watching Youtube vids on moving here will be really prepared for how crazy, awesome, strange, beautiful, chaotic and frustrating this country is. It's like another poster mentioned. This place is like an onion and once you think you've started to get it all figured out, a layer gets pulled back and you realize how much you don't really know. Keep up with the videos, even if it's only to document your time in Cambodia.

Oh, and don't get put off by the negative comments of some of the posters here. There's a good mix of weirdos, drunks, and dinosaurs on this forum. Some of which have been around these parts for a long time and share some really cool & insightful things and experiences from time to time, even if they are pretty salty and out of touch with some things. For the most part, as long as you don't take yourself to seriously and have a bit of thick skin you'll realize that despite the bickering on here, the posters on this forum will definitely help you out/give good advice. Good luck, Dude. Also, the Chill Hop track you wrote for the background music on the video is good. Personally, I'd stick with that style for your vids. :thumb:

Most of the places I know charge money, even for the poor people. One place, where the students are very poor, they charge 500 riel or 13 cents per month. Another place where students are not quite as poor, they charge 10,000 riel or $2.50 per month. People tend to think you are a better teacher if you charge.

But then I have always done it for free, and only relatively short time, assisting in places where someone else will continue when I have gone.

One of the big challenges here is lack of attendance. If they pay, they may attend more often. Teaching is much less effective when students are absent a lot.

A lot of places have teachers and students go out to promote the school and recruit new students.

Talk to others about this and get their ideas.

Sometimes they charge, but help the poorest students. I met one boy who had a teacher buy him a bicycle. He arrives at the school in time for an earlier class, and supervises the parking of bicycles, instead of paying fees.

I have also bought bicycles for some students, and books.

It seems like you are working with someone local. They can obviously fill you in on how they see things.

If you have special talents then that is what you should aim at teaching. If you want to benefit the country teach tech stuff, they can figure out the English elsewhere.

Okay, I will be honest I didn't feel like reading through 7 pages of drama so not 100% sure what is going on. I need a TLDR 😂. However, I did check out your video and subscribed I think it could be interesting to hear about the journey. It could be fascinating to see how it changes you and how your thoughts and impressions are altered by your experiences. My only advice would be lower the volume of the music. Right now I feel like it is competing with you for my attention. Other than that rock on and live your dreams 👍.

Here's what I don't get. This labia rag gets to come on here to make false accusations, insult, lie and slander long term posters without two fucks given by CEO. That's fine, but don't you guys fucking dare send me to the sin bin when I start to fucking wind up on this fucking toadstool.
