Solo trip to Phnom Penh
Re: Solo trip to Phnom Penh
When you're drunk or hammered at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., make sure that you choose the tuk tuk driver, don't let him choose you. Sometimes I'll just stand on Street 51 drunk and hammered at 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. staring into the distance and when tuk tuk drivers desperately and aggressively approach me saying "Tuk tuk? Tuk tuk!" I just say "No."
Then they start asking questions like "Where are you going? What are you doing?" and I just ignore them. Then they give up and finally walk away from the crazy foreigner.
Then after standing there staring a while more I choose the oldest, least aggressive driver and say "OK, let's go."

Instead of using a tuktuk, get a local sim card and install Grab, PassApp and/or Uber that way you won't get ripped off plus you can enjoy the ac =)

Any recommendations for decent hostess bars with bar fines near Amanjaya hotel? Somewhere with friendly, experienced ladies, laid back, low pressure vibes, and no padded drink bills.

And to think I assumed you were coming for the temples and culture. Your hotel is basically right next to the bar area. St 130 bars probably have the hottest girls overall. If you want to tuk tuk it or walk to St 104 try Rose Bar. My niece works there, and she is pretty hot.

I am coming for the temples and culture. But part of that culture seems to be an exciting nightlife with sexy exotic women. Its good to be well rounded:)

Last question, I’m deciding between amanjaya hotel and white mansion hotel. Which is in a safer area or is it all the same? I know amanjaya is near bars but that is not my main interest. Might not even partake in it the more I read about bar girl issues and even being part of that scene.
Which area is more walkable? Any info is appreciated.

Amanjaya is better. Everywhere is potentially dangerous, but you'll be fine if you follow the golden rules, don't carry a bag or get your phone out etc. Don't eschew the bars, 130 is better than 136 for a newbie. Just don't fall in love. The bars will be very quiet from April 13 to 17 btw.Dcracken wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 8:37 am Last question, I’m deciding between amanjaya hotel and white mansion hotel. In PP, the quality of hotels doesn't improve above a certain price level. Best to book for a short time and then look for a better deal once you're here.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice, Armchair. If I decided to check out street 130 do you have any good recommendations for a newbie? Again, somewhere thats not going to pad my bill, with more honest ladies, etc.

Ponytails, Honeypot, Angry Birds. The owner is a regular (and helpful) poster on this forum. Those bars will be a good starting point but feel free to graduate quickly to anywhere that takes your fancy. You won't have any problems if you behave sensibly.
I have never had a bill padded anywhere, you just need to be aware of the bill you are running up. Some bars keep the bill behind the counter which can be a bad sign and it makes it more difficult for you to keep tabs. Candy, 69, Butterfly and Barbados all do that. Short-changing is more common but if it happens and you point it out immediately, you will be refunded. If you pay with a 50 or 100, point out the number to the girl you give it to, just in case they are tempted to short change you. A bigger problem is getting suckered into buying too many lady drinks. As for honest bargirls....
They will be honest in the sense of not stealing from you. As for honest as in not lying to you, no.
If you want a bar that is less full on, try Larrys on 110.
