I had no problem collecting fed benefits by direct deposit when I lived in Oaxaca but you would here about Americans who died there and their Mexican families never reported it because they wanted to keep getting the cash

"American retirees on SS receive it direct deposit to a US bank and would show as receiving in the US."

While that is certainly a possibility it just isn't the uniform case. My SS checks are DIRECTLY deposited in a Cambodian bank.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Do they search your bag before in ? Or can you leave it in a cabinet with the guards while you go inside ,
It’s very intrusive and paranoic for me into Pp and/or the american embassy .
what are you running from? What will you do when your passport expires and you need a new one?

If your worried about them searching your bag, don't take one, (or a phone)

I was wondering the procedure since I don’t live there , can I get off the bus and check my hand bag there in a locker in the checkin area , or something if I’m not taking it in with me ( they won’t let you anyway . ). I just don’t want the hassle of explaining my ‘ medicine ‘.
So if you don’t know , or anyone here don’t know , I will have to check into a hotel or wat phnom to check my bag before going into the american embassy ... ? That’s pretty bad ...

Thanks. I should have stated most. Most also have some sort of US mailing address. Be it a PO box, PMB, family, friend, etc..

When you enter the US Embassy (with your passport as an ID) you are in a security/reception area separate from the business area. You will be required to leave your mobile phone with the security guards. Any bag you have will be sent through an x-ray machine and possibly searched and you will go through a metal detector (same as in an airport). I believe the no liquids rule applies there too. You then leave through a secure door down a walkway to the entry door to the business area. There will be another security guard there and he/she may search your items again before entry.

So don't bring anything you do not need for your business there, especially anything that you do not want them to see or inspect.

Why is that bad? Do you really think they will check-in your bag without searching it, then it blows up the building? It is now 2019 my friend. Deal with it.

I am a retired American trying to have my SS benefits direct deposited into an ABA bank. After two failed attempted transfers early this month, my benefits were suspended, requiring me to update my bank information. Spent most of this month trying to get this resolved, and yesterday I finally got a call from a guy in Manila. He said he "thought" the problem was with my ABA account number having only 9 digits, and that their system is set up to send to accounts with 12 digits. (I actually did find this in a SS program operation's manual) He's having the payment sent out again, this time adding 000 to the end of the account to make. He said if that doesn't work, I might have to find a different bank with 12 digit account numbers. That sounds like a pretty strange requirement to choose a bank for, and if it is a requirement, why didn't it state that on the 1199 form? If anyone can shed any light on this, I would be very appreciative. If you're an American receiving your benefits directly, particularly if you are with ABA, did you have this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!
