Snookie Sucks... so far

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I hear that in some places at SNV they have Trivia Nights. And at Victory Hill they have Spelling Bees.

i nearly always pay when i leave
But I do guess you have to leave some sort of guarantee?
Photocopy of your passport. A lot of small or mid-range places ask you to pay the first night on arrival, and then generally you pay as you go, every couple of days or once a week, or even when you leave.
If you have a regular place to stay, then they know you, so you don't even need a passport or ID - this is Jamie's case I suppose. There is a lot more trust than some people seem to think - everyone is not out to rip you off - and that goes both ways. O:-)
Guesthouses, you usually pay when you leave, but they will have your passport copied. Mind you, that doesn't stop some people obviously.
why pre pay for a room anywhere?

During holiday season, or because you want a particular room kept for you, or because you can negotiate a discount for cash upfront are good reasons to prepay. But paying for a room in advance sight unseen can lead to bad surprises. Why should they make an effort since you've already paid ?
thats correct i usually stay at the same places so i dont even need my passport i can leave it locked up at home,
and usually book via email to get a decent rate, and because i dont often know how long i actually want to stay they just book my room and keep it reserved until i leave no problems

but yeah that was my point in your last bit, meaning pre paying for your room before youve even turned up,
no matter what country im in, when im booking a room on Booking.com,
i always go for the rooms that say "Free cancellation, Pay when you stay",
if i was staying anywhere for more than a few days, id check the room out first before paying if they wanted me to pay up front

You're a bit out of date, they burn through Shv city and head to Otres, then go out to Sanloem. I went to this STA meeting, out of nosiness and partly from being mislead, a couple of months ago. Anyhow I spoke to the guy who manages Speed Ferry Cambodia, and he said Sanloem was where double his Koh Rong traffic now went. Occheuteal pier in the high season was almost totally Sanloem boats, you had to get the bus for the Koh Rong boat. It was certainly noticeable in Koh Tuich village this year, the main one on Koh Rong this is, NYE and KNYE the last couple of years were manic with back-packers and the village was busy until July. Not this year, very few turning up all season, used to be a load of Westerners working on the island throughout the year, not this year. The Koh Rong boat now does three other beaches further up the coast, Coconut beach looks quite plush and the bit on, is it lonely beach, the one just up from the village over the river, is now fully developed. And Sok San is growing, too. But overall they're now giving Koh Rong a miss.
