Is Snookie any good in November?

Post by shnoukieBRO »

Been a long time, but i know jan, feb, march, are supposed to be the months to hit Snook, but is it worth going November time? Will it be dead and boring and crappy weather?

Reason? Some cheap flights going. :salut:

Usually the shoulder season, late Sept to early Nov, is the best IMO but the rains have persisted this year well into late October. They should tapper off soon enough so November would be idea. And the speedboats to KR and KRS are only 10$ return right now!

Thanks. Just weighing up a variety of options.

Mind you i always prefer guaranteed sunshine and busy scene. I'm assuming that jan-march the place will be mobbed . What about Serendipidy, is it now full of Chinese?

November is the windy season. Can get typhoons coming from Vietnam.

I was on the beach at Koh Chang on 3 November 1997 when Typhoon Linda struck. The previous day there was a beautiful sandy beach. After Linda visited, all the sand had been washed out to sea. The waves were huge. No swimming on that day.

The last couple of years we have had rain into the first week of December so in November it'll rain a bit. Maybe once or twice a week. The massive storms should be finished. It's getting hot again at midday now so should be nice beach weather. Seas can be a bit choppy up until Christmas or NYE. It's been a bit quiet here, maybe no-fun Thailand will bring more of the boys to this yard next month. You never can tell, though, people should drift in throughout November and December.

As stated Nov. is 50/50 sunshine/rain. Main beach area project isn't quite finished yet (if it will ever be finished), but the bars/restaurants are set back from the beach now. You do avoid the crowds of other months. I wouldn't swim there because of the sewage outfall from the street and business's (that's not water you are walking through or dining near on the downhill street) Lots of construction on the main street.

Ugly Independence beach road project is still only half done so that area is a construction project and screwed up.

For day tripping beach time, I recommend Hawaii beach Monday through Friday, but not during a holiday. Its a favorite of Cambodians, but is empty during the week. I recommend the small restaurant at the end of the beach with some rocks in front of it. Rocks give shelter when swimming if there are any waves. Nice family and they won't rip you off like the other Cambo restaurants at the entrance. Russian White Rabbit restaurant/beach-front is ok and is on the left when you enter.)

Otres beach road (the one right in front of the restaurants) is almost a 4-wheel drive road after the rainy season. I wish they would at least grade it once in a while.

Small Hotel downtown is run by people from Scandinavia, is very clean and reasonable, last time I had friends staying there, they had a shuttle to their restaurant on Independence beach.

I wouldn't be put off by a few days of rain as it clears the air and makes it a little cooler after. Just bring an umbrella (or a bar of soap.)

that beach side road at otres 1 is a disgrace even hard going on cycle... as is the same road over at otres 2. Just one more reason to avoid otres.
you'd think (wrongly) the business owners there would sort it out.... but the day they do that will probably be the day before all the 'illegal' structures that have not yet been removed are bulldozed.....

Thanks again everyone for your tips. Much appreciated.

I was hoping to return to see how improved or damaged the place is compared to my last visits before all that construction malarky. Personally judging the images i've seen on this forum, it looks like i'm in for a bit of a shock, well, it will be interesting

That is of course, if i do actually go there. Thailand's gonna be too expensive and probably downbeat after recent happenings i suppose. Decisions decisions.

Cheers all. :beer3:
