The suffering and fear were palatable.
. . .
“Most of the guys who go to Cambodia are child predators but there are also opportunistic predators, they’re on holiday and think ‘why not?’ They’re usually interested in older children say 12-years-old,” the former cop said.
parody, surely?

what attracted our swashbuckling savior to cambodia in the first place?

Assuming, of course, that they were "palpable"...

For my 2 cents.

1. Only the strange, the dubious and the desperate NGO's continue with these ridiculous claims. Plenty of research shows that around 95% of sexual crimes against juveniles is Khmer on Khmer. The number of western sex offenders coming to the KOW, for this reason, are low (the 5% is includes all non-cambodians so chinese, koreans etc) due to the increased protection levels and awareness - e.g. CPU, APLE, Childsafe etc. not to say it doesn't happen, but not in the levels these dubious NGOs would have you believe when they come around with their begging bowl, There is no K11 etc. anymore....if it is sold as a western problem, then Canadians with no knowledge of Cambodia will, donate out of guilt, if they knew it was jayvarman obsessed local then they would rightly place the responsibility on the Cambodian Government (thanks to the CPU's great work even this is addressed. Let’s not forget when Agape were found to be peddling this bullshit on American TV adverts and had to apologize to HE https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/southeas ... y-reprieve

2. For anyone, including Brazil Boy or these other "journalists" who just rock up and claim they met these pedo's and saw it going on or they were approached by a kid for sex on riverside etc., this is not an open market, if they were intent on this it is likely to be somewhere very far from the normal areas westerners would go and are usually brokered by some twisted local (hence why you get a lot of these sickos caught out in villages in Siem Reap or darkest parts out near PP airport). To say you see this happen suggests you are putting yourself in these areas and would lead to big questions about what you were doing there.

3. This Ratanak has an annual report - https://www.ratanak.org/news/january-2020/ showing over $2 million spent, for a local NGO (i.e. not a Save the Children, Care international etc.) this is a phenomenal amount of money compared to others and with fairly low outcomes in terms of number of outcomes/beneficiaries. The report is actually so shockingly lacking in detail it literally tells us nothing as to who these people were, how they were rescued, where from, who from etc. so in my book , not transparent, not a credible organisation. there are many great ones who are part of joined up work under networks where they are heavily vetted e.g. Family Care First, 3PC, who would do much more with this money, not to mention are transparent. There's a reason these bible bashers hover around the periphery. The main people getting exploited seem to be the people donating out of "good faith"

So back to point one, a dubious organization peddling insulting lies about the vast majority of western men who work and live and contribute here. And as JB and SAA and others have correctly pointed out, Sure if you hang around RIverside or with Pieman you might see some critters with bad intentions but those dregs are getting slowly but surely squeezed out.

In 23 years with the RCMP as a crime scene specialist, Brian McConaghy thought he’d seen it all.

“Most of the guys who go to Cambodia are child predators but there are also opportunistic predators, they’re on holiday and think ‘why not?’ They’re usually interested in older children say 12-years-old,” the former cop”
Here is a man that has seen it all after 30 years with the Mounties.
I think we should listen to this man.
He knows what he is talking about.
I'm a lumberjack and i am ok, i drink all night and i sing all day
according to folklore all canadians are gay lumberjacks. We should believe that too

There is a thread on this from 2017 : Christian NGO AIM, (Agape International Ministries), to be investigated over child sex stories.

I will also point out the story is by the execrable Toronto Sun tabloid. I don't know much about the British papers for comparison, but its stories are as abhorrent as anything you might see in the Sun or Bad Tabloid Name Goes Here.

Here's a story transition that's cheap and tawdry and completely without attribution. First, the ex-mountie is working on donating medical supplies then the "reporter" leaps into sex trafficking. Smooth segue from humorous anecdote!
That led to McConaghy organizing tonnes of medical supplies in the southeastern Asian country. He jokes that the Mounties were understanding of his absences.

Sex trafficking and sex tourism have been a blight on the Asian landscape for decades. Western men whose twisted desires involving the very young were drawn to the area like moths to a flame.
Something JB wrote:
Yesterday I was in four different provinces, and the closest I got to Daun Penh was BKK1 for a few beers afterwards, with busy people - not sleazeballs or derelicts.
There are probably more than 100,000 western foreigners living in Cambodia nowadays. Most of them you will never see or meet as they don't associate with your (BrazilBoy's) sort.
Just about everyone I knew in Phnom Penh in 2011-12 was working. One of the pleasures of living there back then were the chats with smart people. Most of the people I knew owned hotels, bars, coffee shops, developed properties, worked in a newspaper, ran their own businesses or developed and ran a school for impoverished kids, with Khmer teachers or were ex-military with normal lives. In fact, I can't remember any foreigner who could have been classified as a layabout or worse.

This is a trained professional, a man who has devoted a lifetime to law enforcement.
I think we can safely assume that her knows what he’s talking.

My own recent stint in Cambodia bears out what he’s saying: not only just predators but proud to predators bragging about how young they they were. He does leave out the lonely hearts contingent, those sad old expats looking for love in the arms of a Riverside whore so maybe he did overstate but this is a hardened law enforcement man. He probably didn’t even think about lonely hearts and assumed they were all predators.

A fair estimate would be 50% - upwards of 50% of the expats living in Cambodia are sexual predators and the rest are mostly here for opportunistic sex. That about bears out what I saw.
are u fucking serous and really believe this??

Most of child sex trafficking involves locals & Police. Hey, if money is involved in SE Asia, you can count on it that some cop or politician will have a hand in it.
Dont fucking put this all on the Expats that travel as tourists to SE Asia
or chooses to make his home here.

FYI: nothing will change as long as the poor locals look on children as a commodity

" I have squandered my resistance / For a pocketful of mumbles, / Such are promises / All lies and jest / Still, a man hears what he wants to hear / And disregards the rest. "
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
