Sihanoukville motodop drugs and rapes bar staff

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. This is not about what western people think. It's about what Cambodians think. To a lot of them any girl that works in a hostess bar is considered as good as a prostitute by association.

In your post I notice you refer to her as working behind the bar. While this should make a difference in the local's eyes, I doubt it really does.
By locals I should have refered to them as Cambodians as I was meaning Cambodian society in general.

Again, it says no where in the article that it was a hostess bar. Stop making assumptions.

This girl has gone through a very tough ordeal, and got no support from the authorities, not only is there now a story going around about here but there is video of the incident. Knowing that that is out there will not be easy for her to deal with along with the whole situation.

Assholes like you assuming she is a hooker is not helping anything.

We should be focused on the scum that did this and the inept authorities that a supposed to be helping in these situations and leave her and the bar out of it, whether she is a hooker or not or worked in a hostess bar or not has no relevance to this issue IMHO.
Do you know Victory Hill? Do you know the bar owners? That all the businesses on restaurant street are owned by Khmer? That all the rest round the corner are girly bars run in the main part by barang? That the only place I know of that isn't, is the French Restaurant Tutti Fruiti? Things change fast on the hill and it could be one of the places on Ekreach street itself ( where Mojo is), seems like you are perhaps presuming more than I am.

My mentioning prostitutes was because after reading the article I could almost visualize which bar it may have been. Also it seemed to be relevant to the reason why the police did nothing. Therefore, I was pointing out the hypocrisy of how the Cambodians treat poor girls who come / are sent from the farm to help their families eat back home and some of the shit they have to go through.

You seem to be the one who thinks prostitutes should receive worse treatment than non prostitutes. For me it's so obvious that they should be treated the same, as human beings, that it is not even worth mentioning. My beef is with the rapist, the carpet bagging reporters, the police and Cambodian contemporary social mores ( the main culprit and one reason why the police can get away with doing f all) . Cambodia needs to go through what India has started going through on social awareness around rape.

You're a fool.

How can anything that I said show you that I think prostitutes should be treated differently?

I'm done engaging with you. Hopefully you crawl back into the hole you were in before and leave this forum alone. It was a better place when you stopped posting.

I'm not going to get involved in the argument here and I will state for the record that the c"unt should be castrated, slowly, with a blunt razor blade.
However.... its admittedly been 4 or 5 months since I have visited the Hill, and I agree that things change rapidly up there. But I still know it and most of the bar owners well. I can't think of even 1 Ozzie bar owner up there. Are you sure you aren't mistaking Ozzies for Kiwis? That would then make a lot more sense to me.

Not sure who you are talking about there mate. But it wouldn't seem to be this particular bar owner who seems to be showing genuine concern and remorse for the girl and for what happened and is in fact offering a reward to re catch the motodop involved.

A reward to catch the motodop? To what end? The police had him, questioned him, and let him go.

I may be mistaken but today while riding my bicycle I saw a tuk-tuk driver near the Sihanoukville Plaza hotel who eerily looks like that guy in the picture. A little pudgy, but then sometimes some people have very similar facial features. I wasn't sure and I couldn't approach this guy either as there were quite a few other tuk-tuk drivers lounging in their vehicles. If there is someone who thinks he can possibly identify this guy, maybe he could drive by there. Maybe even the owner of that bar in case he reads this forum. That hotel is at the end of 23 Tola Street on Ochheuteal near the Makara Guesthouse. It's about 3 km down from the Golden Lion.
