Sihanoukville hut hotel room without motorbike but easy for food ?

Post by gaplem »

hello,

Where do you like to stay at sihanoukville ? anything hut style ? (little house)

and if I do not want to rent a motorbike but stays at otres village, can I do everything there (buy bakeries, sandwiches, grocery, eat etc...) or do I need to go often to city center ?

thank you.

Hiya

we stay at Mary Beach bungalows in Otres II, although last visit they had no bar which was a drag as we like to charge drinks to the room, it involves less exertion

Bakeries and sandwiches mmmm you are in Cambodia, we did find a cafe of sorts that sold a decent coffee
I think you'll survive in Otres II or even walk the beach to Otres I which is larger
Even the ugly ones

Otres 1 sounds like a good option for you, OP.

hello, I found on google that there are cops roadcheck at otres and otres 2 ? is it true ? so I should really avoid renting the motorbike.

And is is true that the road side is full of trash as everywhere in Cambodia ? I was expecting that at least near the beach someone would clean... and at least resorts owners ? But maybe it's them who trash everything :-)

Get an IDP. You may get stopped but they prefer to find weed on you as that's a money spinner. They're not allowed to look in your pockets at the roadside, but they can search your bag. Otherwise cops are more interested in the Chinese than you. It's perfectly acceptable to try and drive round them or perform a U-turn when you see them. Wear a helmet and try not to look too hammered.

There are piles of rubbish everywhere, yes. It's not going to change for generations. Usually there's someone you can give money to to take away your rubbish on the beach, or at least fling it somewhere else, but sometimes people don't pay. Beaches in front of resorts generally get cleaned, the public beaches not so much.

we found it easier to ride along the beach track from Otres i to II, no cops

if we did go into town we parked bikes before the main streets
Getting hassled by the cops wasn't much fun

Otres beaches have the odd rubbish but still beautiful
Even the ugly ones

The problem is not to find a bungalow, it's to find a place that is not full of trash...
