Re: Sihanoukville Budget Accommodations
since this is about 'budget.' If you take the Capitol bus to SHV they either stop during the daytime at the bus station or after dark go directly to their downtown office. If they end the trip at the bus station just walk across the yard and take their free shuttle bus to the down town office.
The tuktuk drivers will assure you there is none. Ignore them. Same situation in Battambang by the way.
Plenty of clean guesthouses with aircon for USD 15 around. Just book for one night and take a tour around the areas you like. Depending on the length of your stay use your bargaining skills.

Re: Sihanoukville Budget Accommodations
Thanks again to all of you who posted excellent info. I heard through the grapevine that the APT Poker Tournament at Queenco in Sihanoukville has been postponed due to bankruptcy. How a poker room can go bankrupt is beyond me but, as we all know, anything is possible in Cambodia. Even if they don't get a new venue, I'll still make the trip as I've never had the chance to visit there and have been couped up in Okinawa, Japan for almost 2 years now. Plus I miss all my international friends (and even some of my enemies, lol!) and the various shenanigans, happenings and generally fucked up shit that I used to both witness or enjoy in PP.
And you can bet that I'll be sure stop by the LoneStar for a chili cheeseburger! O r maybe some ribs. Hmmmmm.

Weird, they just spent all that dough fixing it up & it's still there I assume. Anyhoo, the thread was worth it just for the great offer from Aqua Resort IMO.

There is quite a lively poker scene in SHV
Charlie Harpers has a small friendly tournament 3 times a week; Mon, rebuy and top up for the 3 blinds/1hr, at $22. Pots can reach $500 with 4h place usually paid $40; Wednesday and Friday a $22 buy in with one re entry if you bust out in the first 3 blinds. One table of 10. (I play each time when in town).
Fortuna Casino has a cash game every evening Mon- Friday, usually people buy in for $200 (Min $100). One Sat from 6pm and Sun from 3pm there is a rebuy tournament (up to 20 people), $50 buy-ins and a top up after the 3rd 30 minute blind, minimum pot size a guaranteed $1,800. It is less than 290 meters from Aqua. Also has $2 blackjack tables.
Golden Island Casino has a daily cash game min $100 buy-in from 6.30pm, less than 90 metres from Aqua.
There is private daily cash game in town from 1pm, $20 min buy in 25cent/50 cent blinds, practical minimum buy in $50. Ask for location details.
Queenco has apparently just reopened their poker room but I never go, awkward location, could be closed for the second time.
Also a Russian game from what I hear.
so you can have fun and earn if you are a pro, quite a few make their living playing poker.
Re: Sihanoukville Budget Accommodations
A big thanks to you LaudJohn for the excellent info on the Snooky poker scene. I will relay the info to the rest of my entourage. I will definitely check out Charlie Harpers.
