Sihanoukville: Brand New Bar Complex + Beach Update

Post by Jamie_Lambo »

So, i been down the beach today to check out whats been going on recently and to get an update and i got speaking to this khmer business guy, and was telling me about his big new development thats being constructed behind the back of Pier side of Ocheateal,
theyre going to be constructing a huge new bar area, with over 100 plots, most which have already been reserved, all the buildings/units can be build for 2 stories high, [edit] it should be finished in around 3 months
he ended up giving me a copy of the plans, the ones highlighted in pink are the ones already reserved, ive also had a little doodle on paint to show the area on a map, and also what it should end up looking like....

Interesting stuff.

I hope you're overseeing all that brick laying, Jamie.

Yes, it's quite normal for 65 plus bars to be reserved, even before the plans are released or anybody has been told about it.

In my early days we would always add a teaspoon of liquid laundry soap to the cement mix. This would make the mortar light, soft and fluffy to work with. When I have seen some guys plastering here , the mortar looked so hard and difficult to spread. Do they know this trick, or do they use a cement which has a additive already in it ?

Yeah that is a bit odd that many bidnezez already got a spot chosen.

Does anyone else see the current Khmer buildings looking like private penal institutions?

I find it interesting when the local brickies use the fishing line to make the straight line, but they still don't seem to refer to the fishing line at all and end up with anything but straight. Do they realize what it's for?

Opportunity there for a western trained brickie. Trains the locals properly. Get a real team organized. Teach the apprentices to teach others.

And let's not talk about using a level, or trying to make water flow uphill to the drain outlet in a shower floor.. Don't get me started on that subject.

^^ Oh, so you don't want to talk about the cement columns on the balcony that don't line up. Or, the placement of power points and light switches.
In that case we shouldn't mention the layout of Khmer kitchens, or the . . . . . . .

You didn't take any pictures of Eden bar. It's up for grabs at $1000 a month, according to the post on Facebook. However the rather dim chappie putting it up for rent said it was 20m from the sea, rather than the actual 120m or so it really is, as a selling point. Cue much confusion on the bulldozing. This entire chunk of land has been in the Royal Group's hand for a while, a cynic might say that the whole seaside revamp might have been specifically precipitated, in order to facilitate this complex. The Royal Group's pier, anyone? Tin foil hats available.
