Sihanoukville and Cambodian coast for sale: 10 years ago
This is a Guardian article from April 2008 that gives an interesting perspective on Cambodia's recent land fever in and around Sihanoukville and the islands. Interesting to see who was buying up land at the time, and what has changed in the last ten years.
Country for sale
26 April 2008
Almost half of Cambodia has been sold to foreign speculators in the past 18 months - and hundreds of thousands who fled the Khmer Rouge are homeless once more...

Yep 2008 was a good year for me, If I told you what I bought and what it's worth now, you would be jealous . But don't worry 2018 will be a good year to buy and in 2028 you can look back and look at your bargin.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Holy cow, it was just after the crisis !
The price easily increase x10 even x20 or x30 in some prime location.

xlnt topic. change is so fast in this country- i wonder how many remember riverside and sv at the time of publication of this article.
both were dusty- but comparatively little 4W traffic. I would reckon PP had less than half the population then that it has now.

Did you buy any of your land on soft title? If you did, how did they all work out? Cheers.Duncan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2017 3:43 pm Yep 2008 was a good year for me, If I told you what I bought and what it's worth now, you would be jealous . That Rattanakiri land doesn't exactly look like good value, especially for 08.

That was bullshit anyway, with no figures to back it up. The ELCs are 99 year leases, which they later mention in the article. Many have been revoked and they never covered half the country. A whole lot are owned by local tycoons too, not foreign speculators. Not that I believe that it was in the country's best interest to grant all of these concessions, but I'd rather more accurate reports.Guardian wrote:Almost half of Cambodia has been sold to foreign speculators in the past 18 months
It was but as far as I remember the crisis didn't have much effect on property prices here.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
