Should Chinese New Year be a 'recognized' holiday in Cambodia?

Ridiculous situation. Some of us have to work because it's not a holiday, yet others can't understand/believe that we have to work on such an important day.

It's not a holiday. Should it be?

It is a holiday, official status notwithstanding.

Because Cambodia needs another set of public holidays? It's not a Khmer festival, it's a Chinese/Vietnamese one. While there are substantial communities of both in Cambodia - it's a bit like asking whether Eid (which marks the end of Ramadan) should become a national holiday in the UK or France - the answer is no.

Mixed feelings on this. In one way I like a culture that isn't all about work, work, work. I think most people in the west work far too many hours, and could do with an extra few weeks holiday a year. What are we rushing around making money for other people for anyway?
On the other hand, I don't get paid for holidays, and I don't get paid enough to enjoy the many days that Cambodia offers. EG 3 days for the kings bday coming up soon.
But if your holidays are paid or your bringing in a decent wedge, Cambodia is the place to be.

If you are retired it should definitly be a holiday, for everyone else,,, get back to work and pay your share of taxes to help support the country ( and goverment )

Yes, of course, one of the poorest countries in the world that already has almost a month of official holidays can certainly with a few more.

At the same time, I also propose that Germany makes the Commemoration of Atatuerk a holiday (1.5 Million Turks in Germany), Italian Liberation Day (0.5 Million Italians), as well as the Zonghe Festival (110,000 Chinese live in Germany).

i know a lot of friends that are either half chinese/khmer or have chinese relatives, i dont see why it shouldnt be a holiday to be fair

in England one of the biggest celebrations is the Irish St. Patricks day, which is probably ranked 3rd behind Christmas and New Year, and more celebrated than the English St. Georges Day and the Queens birthday lol
but its not a "bank holiday" as our government are tight cunts and only give us like 7 a year!!!

2016
25 March Friday Good Friday
28 March Monday Easter Monday
2 May Monday Early May bank holiday
30 May Monday Spring bank holiday
29 August Monday Summer bank holiday
26 December Monday Boxing Day
27 December Tuesday Christmas Day (substitute day)

but with me being self employed and not christian so i dont give a shit about them and would work if i could (apart from Xmas)

That's still not 90%+ that own/run all the businesses though is it?

The pure blooded Khmer (direct descendants from Angkor Wat) are turning Chinese, pretty much as we were all supposed to be turning Japanese a few years ago. Except it's not just motorbikes they are buying from China but coffins. All the rage to be buried in the Chinese style nowadays. Something about Luck and Money. lol
