Sex education in Cambodian schools

more interesting than marginalization would be what is the cultural thinking behind the practice?
I haven't really looked into it much but I get the picture that it's similar to many religions worldwide, including some Christian sects. These allow the adolescent some freedom to experience the outside world and break conventions before most inevitably return to the conservative and traditional fold.

The elders of the Kreung instituted this practice because they were holders of a great and ancient wisdom
- they knew full well that you just can't stop teenagers from rooting.

This Kreung practice could work well in a small tribe where the male teen would be shamed into marrying the girl if she got pregnant. In larger rural or urban societies giving such “freedom to experience the world” often leads to single mothers working in bars.
