Serendipity Beach Cleared!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Serendipity Beach Cleared!

Post by Jamie_Lambo »

Forgot to mention this earlier...
this morning the police came down and made all the businesses clear all their sunbeds/chairs etc off the beach, to the dissmay of a lot of the business owners, Martinis owner was actually talking about moving to PP he is that pissed off...

i must admit though the beach did look loads better (apart from all the exposed rubbish on the beach that is going to need clearing up) but it actually looked like a beach and you could see all the way down to the end of ochheuteal

Yeah, but this has happened before: it gets cleared, then slowly the chairs and tables come out at night, then they stay out until the next crackdown.
Don't think anything much will happen until after KNY now. But keep us posted. :thumb:

Beachy had them come round, apparently there was a letter sent out. Some dude was sat out on the open bit, enjoying the free beach. Definitely room to sit this New Year.

Phuk you Jamie. You have made a post that I just HAVE to reply to even though I swore I would never comment on either forum again.
You have been here long enough to know SERENDIPITY is to the west side of the pier and it HASN'T been cleared. You were here today FFS.
Its Occheuteal proper ( the entire beach is actually Occheuteal, Serendipity is the "nickname" of our end of the beach and has only been used for about 15 years. Ask Laud Lohn) that has been cleared.

I thought Serendipity was the right hand side of the pier coming down the hill.

The only way Serendipity Beach could be cleared is if they removed all the rocks and filled it with sand. :thumb:

Well, I call the whole fucking place Serendipity Beach, only because I can NEVER spell "Orcheateal."

I dread when something newsworthy happens on Otreateel, as I have to spend several minutes on Google trying to guess which spelling is best rather than which is right or wrong. The Phnom Penh Post even uses a fucking apostrophe in there somewhere. Those bastards even managed to turn "Otres" into 3 words. Unbelievable.

I just post/say Occy beach normally, rather than try to spell it :)

Serendipity beach is the side of the pier with no beach, just rocks. Nice to have a few quiet drinks along there in the afternoon, in the bars overhanging the water

Been to Only Sky Above Us many times, don't know what the other ones are called

The big clear out has started down Ocheateal & "Serendipity" Beach, photos taken from behind Martinis, the owner was saying everyones got about a week or something then everythings getting knocked down....
everyones got to relocate their bars about 20-30metres back, then the gap between the existing pathway and their bar is "their private beach" to which they can put their sunbeds and tables on, and the bit between the path and the sea is "public beach"
