Scuba diving Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Well the ocean doesn't always like to cooperate with people's dive plans. My dive instructor years ago told me something I never forgot - You have to dive the shitty days to really appreciate the good days. Can't cherry pick the good days, so rough seas, bad visibility is all part of the fun sometimes :beer3:
try diving in singapore 3 feet of visibility, everywhere else is paradise after that

I think that was his point, but hell sounds fun ;-) I've heard the same thing about diving off Tokyo and Hong Kong, don't mind bad vis/strong currents, if there's something to see, I love macro life too.

head to Thailand west coast from nov-april or the burma banks /mergui area in south burma ( if u can afford t)
Why Nov-April? My friend is working in Thailand next month and has a live aboard booked for the Andaman Sea. Thanks I'll check out Burma, I take it that would have to be live aboard too? Or has some dive shops opened recently in Myanmar? :hattip:

Nov-april cause of the winds/season
not yet BUT soon, most liveabords travel long distance to get to the Similans, than Burma banks than Mergui Archipelago. so leave from Khao Lak or Ranong and check into Burma at Kwathoung
I was really lucky,Back in 1988 was on a dive trip thru this area for 30 days exploring new spots, amazing :beer3:

this is my friends boat/trip; http://siamdivers.com/thailand/liveaboa ... nerary.php

Thanks I'll bookmark your friend's site. I asked my friend and he's going with Sea Dragon out of Khao Lak, looks right across from the Similan Islands, really wish I had the time to go with him, soon enough hopefully. Btw Richard dig your photos :thumb:

Yeah unfortunately Padi has took over for the most part in the US, I have all my certifications from them but I'm not a fan how they run business, some of their specialty certs are ridiculous, I can understand having to get a cave diver certification(a lot of people die venturing into caves without proper training and equipment) but boat diving cert? It's just all about $$. Regardless of who you get certified with though a good instructor makes all the difference, especially if you plan on going deep/wreck diving.

I had to do all those things for open water, plus free ascent from 60 feet(18 meters?) and had to learn how to shoot a lift bag, like I said it all depends on the instructor, I got lucky and met a guy through my neighbor and payed a little more for private instruction, he came to my apt's pool, he had me down to 100 feet on my 2nd dive, wreck diving by my 6th and did a shark dive in nasty weather on my 8th so I whisked right along getting my advanced and nitrox, he sold me most of my first equipment and let me make payments. I've had a great group of experienced divers to dive with over the years. I've been thinking of getting tech certified.

My friend did a cheap groupon cert and damn near ruptured his eardrum on his first dive.
