say goodbye to uncensored internet in Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I know this is an old threat, but internet censorship really is one of the worst things that could potentially happen.

Those are bad things happening to you.

What are the worst things for a society?
Probably not internet censorship directly, though the 'internet' part of that is redundant these days.
But censorship potentially throws a veil over much more sinister developments, and is itself a measure of how controlled a society is.

Hey all, :la_rose:
I'm bumping up this thread because there has been another official government announcement today about "fake news" . So, here's a reminder. In Cambodia, posting anything declared to be "fake news" by official sources can get you sued for defamation or incitement to stir up unrest or something similar. I don't know who actually gets sued, but it's not the kind of attention we want for the forum.(Or that you would want either.)
This is not a new problem, but new CEO forum members might need to be reminded that freedom of speech can be very relative in Cambodia, so you do need to mind what you say and what you post here.

As more subjects are being declared fake news by the authorities, we are reduced to a form of self-censorship about what we post on the open forum unfortunately. (Fortunately, we also have the closed discussion forum, paradoxically for open discussion. ;-) ) And also unfortunately, Cambodia's new big bro is very attached to internet censorship, so things are not likely to improve in the near future.
:voilent1:

Today's latest "fake news" subject is here, just so you know. :director:

You’ll need to access their servers to get out of cam then connect to midgetporn.com. If they are not based here there will be blocks.
if they are based here then they could be run by the government, or giving their information to government. if not based here you are still being monitored. people seem to think vpns are the solution but I think they are a little misguided there.

I dont think that's too wise.
