Sanctuary - A Social Experiment

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

i thought the most popular thread was slamming K440

Well maybe it is an area offering the potential for a little different approach

Why restrict us to this particular thread?

I thought all 'Forum Sections' were for polite chit chat. (Except for the Arsesanine Section).

But, more to the point Ed, who exactly is not talking politely? Names, please.

Yes, I agree UT, but I think the point of the experiment and it is an open experiment, is to see if it attracts currently quiet or silent members. If they feel happier in a less challenging environment.

Maybe they will, or maybe no one will want to use it. This is why we do experiments, to find out.

Time, I guess will show us.

If we just guess the outcome, then why experiment? If we don't challenge what is routinely accepted, then how do we positively evolve and develop.

"But, more to the point Ed, who exactly is not talking politely? Names, please."

Well it would be only my opinion of what is and isn't polite, who am I to point my finger, a little hypocritical, if it did  I think the point is that people decide for themselves, while respecting others rights to have opinions that differ from their own.

Sounds good Edin and I personally think its a good idea and I fully support it.

Question – I usually just click on "view active posts" and then comment from there. How will I know if its in a "be nice" section, or in the "asinine" section?

Thank you Garry

Well at the moment it is just this thread, so I guess we can discuss the 'Hows' on here, in a nice way and see how it develops.

How do you think it might be achieved?

Without rearranging the menu/topic section the easiest way would be to have it written into the thread title and also to have a prewritten message reminding people of the rules at the start of each new thread page.

I'm certainly no techie but to me that should be fairly easy to arrange, set up and manage.

IT guys?

Yes, maybe a little ICON in the title. So there could be ICON, Anti-Icon and for middle of the road no ICON. How about a little Yellow ICON that does the peace 'V' sign,

but for now this is just an experimental thread, tomorrow, who knows !

^ Speaking of icons, didn't someone, maybe Stroppy, show us how to put the female symbol on thread titles?

The coolest part was that they even showed up in Tapatalk!

Is the peace sign you speak of the same thing?

No sarcasm and no flaming? Hmmm..... this will be hard for me.

Random thought right now:

The whole time I've been in Saudi Arabia I haven't gotten any hugs. Not a single one. Image

This seems unusually cruel. I'm used to several hugs a day! Will I be able to survive this?

Going to Goa, India tomorrow, so I'm guessing I'll get a hug recharge.

Dear Ed,

I'm glad that you get how an internet discussion forum works. You said that discussing which substances you can and can't shove up your nose isn't your cup of tea.

Many people, in this situation, would simply go on that thread and make a post about how they don't like those kinds of threads.

When I see people do that I think that the person really doesn't grasp the concept of how discussions work. That's like someone continually reading history books and going out of their way to tell people how much they hate reading about history.

You on the other hand just go and start a thread about something that interests you. :thumb:

^ THAT is how discussion forums are meant to work! People need to realize that and know that they are encouraged to start threads about anything and everything they think is interesting.

Good on you for just going all out and starting all sorts of random threads!

I have no idea in the world what this thread is about and no idea where it will go, but it's somehow captured my interest!
