Salaries Cut and Job Losses (list of schools in Phnom Penh)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Yeah, whilst Cambodia has seen a steady amount of DFI over 2020, that money isn't really going to trickle down to your average Khmer person. I suspect a lot of that will be agriculture related for China and to a lesser extent Japan and Korea, it will be intensive technologically advanced farming, something that doesn't need much in terms of labour compared to the traditional farming that is the norm here.

Not to mention that something in the region of Khmer garment jobs went and around 60-70% of the tourism industry - whilst I expect garments to recover as the rest of the world starts spending more again, tourism won't recover to pre-COVID-19 levels for years to come.

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but it's starting again! 10% salary cut this month and I think it will only increase as this situation is prolonged. Any idea how other schools are handling this?

Thank you very much for the update on the situation, I'm eager to learn more about English teaching in Cambodia re: jobs and pay. I assumed this would be another months long episode with layoffs and paycuts. Have they closed many? Have you heard of any others reporting about the jobhunting situation, hiring, pay, and covid policy? I apologize that I don't have any information to share with you.
