I've got a good friend up on Pratumnak in Pattaya & he says that there are hardly any Russians this year. His condo development was full of 'em - but not now. This may have something to do w/it. CMB is A LOT cheaper & visas are WAY easier. Maybe Thai based Russians are trying to move in on their SHV brothers. IMO there seems to be an uptick in the Russian population this season. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking the Ukrainian situation might be a factor as well

As for the the OP question, the Russians SHV's 2 big dogs being involved in a nasty turf war, it attracts shady characters hoping to become foot soldiers. The shear number of the Russian community give these tattooed ex zac bad boys opportunities for collateral crimes too.

It will be quite interesting to witness authorities reaction to this violent situation. I am actually quite happy the thugs made the repeating mistakes of big power display, that will force locals into doing something about it.

Perhaps just perhaps this has to do with the fact that the value of the ruble was almost divided by two recently. This kind of things seems to have an impact on your buying power when you are a foreigner.

Dunno about the ruble, we're still hurting from the Oz dollar dropping a quarter if it's value.

OT, why would the war in Ukraine bring more Russians to Cambodia ? Why are they not over there fighting for their "ideals", running blackmarket scams and selling prostitutes to the soldiers ?

Years ago the Russians thought they could just waltz into Pattaya and get a slice of the action, the Thais quickly showed them who's boss and sent back a message when a couple of the top dogs were taken out, found shot dead in a car. Cut of the snake at the head. They've come back having learnt their lesson and operate relatively under the radar presumably in a manner that is acceptable to the Thais. You don't read much about turf wars breaking out and I think they are shrewd enough to realise there's so much money to be made in legitimate business, property, clubs and restaurants etc due to the volume of their countrymen visiting.

Don't know what the riches are that are being fought over in SHV but I agree with you Barang Doe Slae making their problems high profile is not a good move for them. Pity HE doesn't adopt an Alex Gonzalez approach to the key players.
