Revolting PassApp drivers quit en masse peeling stickers, burning shirts

Post by fax »

PassApp drivers are upset to be paid too little and are resorting to burning their clothes and vandalizing their tuktuks. People are reportedly paid as little as 2000 KHR for 14000 KHR fares leaving bellies empty and families hungry. A group of rebels is trying to organize a demonstration against PassApp's underpaying practices on 01 September.

It is unknown if the drivers will start working for iPhone promotion spamming competitor Grab instead.

I guess this is in PP. There were strikes and protests there by PassApp drivers over pay and work conditions not so long ago if I remember ? At the time there were promises by the companies for a better share of ride fare for the tuktuk guys.

It's a model that's only workable with tipping.

here in Siem Reap..i look at the fare and then pay tge driver what I think is fair...they wait for me...take me several places...and it seems often times the bill is for one way....does not include my ride back home.
since, i have lived all over Cambodia and was over charged or barang charged by many drivers and usually had the phrase...UP TO YOU...
In Thailand..you work out the price before you get in and run into turf wars...
i used to use one or two guys for years..
it depends now on where I am going...
you get drivers who are nitwits..scammers and who have curfews..
I sure like passaps concept..

Let them just burn their stuff if they think it's shit

Want to be the lazy old-fashioned tuk-tuk driver? Sorry guys, those days are over. Get used to it.

Hundreds of others to replace you, thank you very much...

Have only one secret. Drivers also know just don’t want do: need work ( driving)! If a driver make 60-70 km with passenger per day can earn minimum 20$. If doesn’t work 5 days per month it is pretty 500$. Yes for money need work daily 8-10 hours. OMG how they can do 2-3 hours lunch time and 2-3 hours coffee break everyday! I saw drivers chit-chat or play card long hours with switched off phones. Now in PP have around 20,000 rickshaw! Guys wake up and work, better then burn yours t- shirt! I’m sure PasApp company will not step back, drivers need work more!!
Be yourself, no matter what they say!

Angry drivers have posted screenshots showing they've made 1700 Riel from driving for as long as 35 and 41 minutes. PassApp has reportedly lowered their prices 15% and it's coming out of the drivers' pockets.
