This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! You buy a can [ or bottle ] of beer, rip the top off and it is flat. Totally flat, and the person you bought the beer off two minuets ago refuses to replace it or give the money back. [ Remember this is Cambodia ] What do you do. ?
If this happens, just do nothing, you can't argue with assholes especially if they're khmer, but it's good that you tried because he at least knows his beer is bad now.
Don't buy from him ever again, most khmers if they sell you something that's bad they will replace it, I never had an issue where I had to return something and they did not replace free of charge.
There is no returns on any item in SEA.
Nonsense.
Exactly I have never had a problem I think what he meant was "There are no returns on any item in SEA" if you are a bogun!

Not even on a bar girl!
Had one once that did not perform as agreed and still demanded payment.

I broke the activities down to separate actions required and paid accordingly. She got $5.

Next time at the bar I asked manager for refund or bar fine.............. (Joking) he said second complaint on girl so moved her on.

The only guarantee in KoW from a bargirl is a stolen wallet/cash/phone while your in the shower or when you passout.

My regular shop would instantly change it. We have a long time business relationship but I am not sure if I would bother with a bottle of beer.

If it's an odd can, and the sell by date not too far out, better to write it off and buy another. Just check the date before you open this time. The seller would most likely not get any return from who they bought off either. At 50c returned to you, or a free one, they're not making the loss of the can back on the whole box. 50c means more to them than you!
Anything else you buy in KOW, Maybe your backpack at the market? Check every stitch and zip!

The second part to my question is.
Do you put you principals , your word being your bond and everything you stand for , ahead of money, or do you change your views and attitude depending on
how much money is involved.

You will note that my original question was ''' You buy a can or bottle ''. I dont buy or drink beer ,,,

Seems odd to me that someone would have principals where they would just buy another can, cause if this were a bottle of top shelf whisky or a motorbike , would you do the same thing. Not likely,, so your principals change depending on how much money you are spending.

Beerinthemorning

If you start a thread over something that costs 2000 riel you are

A. A backpacker

B. A tight ass expat in KoW.

C. Have been in KoW wayyyy to long.

I did not put a value on the beer ,, you did, And if backpacking means I travel with nothing but a visa card and a spare pair of under pants,, so be it.
As for being a tight ass expat.in KOW. I have already given away more money this month than you have earn't, and Thursday I again put my money where my mouth is and hand over 2000 MR to a Cambodian girl who is in prison on Death Row in Malaysia.
But your right , I've been here too long.

superferret has the right answer.

If this happens, just do nothing, you can't argue with assholes especially if they're khmer, but it's good that you tried because he at least knows his beer is bad now.

The mot of the story is ,, Dont let money or it's value change your principals in life.

17. Start a conversation

By carefully spilling a little of the beer of the attractive person next to you, male or female, you give yourself an opening to apologize, buy them a new drink and start a charming conversation. Just a nudge though, if you drench them they’ll be ticked off and you’ll be considered a prize moron.

You're changing the original question Duncan.

You just now posted: "You will note that my original question was, " You buy a can or bottle ". I dont buy or drink beer ,,,"

When, in fact, your original question was, "You buy a can [ or bottle ] of beer, ". <<<< See that word BEER. You said beer.

Then you move the goal posts and throw in 'top shelf whisky or a motorbike'. That makes a big change to the principals thing.

If Kuroneko went to Bouchon for dinner and ordered a $150 bottle of wine, but . . . the wine is off!! I would expect the restaurant to replace it (at their own expense).
If you buy a motorbike, it would most likely come with some kind of warranty. So not really a good comparison with a flat beer.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, when you buy a can or bottle of beer from a mini mart or little mom 'n pop store, be sure to ask if it comes with a warranty.
