Don't forget that to receive the OZ pension you have to be in the country for 2 years before before retirement age to be eligible for OZ pension.
And that statement is not quite accurate. As in my case,,, in Cambodia for 10 years before applying for the OAP, but was still considered a Australian resident,, because having a house in OZ, a bank account, PO box, library card , plus, plus, and returned once a year. I did not have to stay in OZ for 2 years before getting the OAP, because that is where my permanent place of residence is.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

You misunderstand the process. This was ready before the announcement, everything is in place. Anybody who thinks that information is scarce because of lack of organisation is naive. And some of the guys coordinating it are foreigners.Anchor Moy wrote:Well, they are on it already. Anyone want to give them a call and ask for price and conditions - and how long will it take for the visa if you go see them Monday ? They should know, even if the government doesn't, since they are advertising this as available.

Don't quite understand what you mean Vlad, but if you have info please share.vladimir wrote:You misunderstand the process. This was ready before the announcement, everything is in place. Or are you jesting ? When did you ever see an announcement by the authorities that "lacked organisation" and the means to follow through ? (Clue: yesterday, tomorrow, today...) I'm sure that everything is in place ready for Monday morning.

Correct Duncan, I said perceived to be a resident. People come back from Asia and have no ties to Australia or assets and do not understand that they cannot draw the pension and piss off again. I have always kept bank accounts, comsec account, paid tax, kept a phone number, bought another property two years ago to ensure that I would qualify.
The government had a pronouncement on the front page of the Oz a few months ago whinging about the 800 million over four years that overseas pensioners cost, just to warm the public up for change. But of course they save money with pensioners overseas. No pension supplement and no Medicare costs. Local government and state governments save because of no rates rebate, energy rebate or car rego concession.

I agree. It is one of the reasons I return every 6 weeks even for a couple of days. One of the reasons I still work a few months of the year.
Two years before I turn 67 I will take out a lease in my name and sublet the place. I will still be considered resident. Having business interests or work take me away for more then half the year should not be an issue.

Making 67 might be the issue Loud John! I am the last at 65, it goes by financial year so 30th of June 2017 is the cut off for 65 year olds.
Retirement Visit revisited
I went to Lucky Lucky today where' I've done business for many years. No.information on retirement visa, no idea of cost or requirements. Couldn't sell me one nor advise me on availability. Already in the works Vlad? I doubt it.
