Re: HE responsible for lower oil price

I seem to recall the issue of high fuel prices being used as a political tool during the election period, with the government being blamed for high fuel prices in Cambodia at a time when fuel prices were high worldwide. The opposition even made it one of their official talking points. So now fuel prices are lower in Cambodia when worldwide fuel prices are low, the government takes some credit for it, and this is...what? Politics I guess, just as it was when prices were high, though I didn't notice anybody jumping to the PM's defense when world oil prices were working against him.

I'm starting to sound like Vladimir...
He meant the second one i guess.

Doesn't matter what he meant. What matters is what was said, and what he intended people to believe. I can't comment as I haven't seen/heard the speech, but it wouldn't surprise me if he claimed to have single-handedly lowered prices. As if that were possible... Then again, the average Khmer thinks one can just magically "increase salaries for everyone", and that it's the government's responsibility to pay people for work done at private businesses. "The government" is often seen as a magical entity that can do anything. Of course, it doesn't surprise me that the CNRP would do the same (they're masters of deception). Taking advantage of ignorance is nothing new. Not new here, not new elsewhere on the world either.

Ok, here's the gist of what was said, from a week ago:
He said that based on current global oil prices, the cost per liter (one-fourth of a gallon) of gasoline in Cambodia should be only 4,000 riel (U.S. $0.98), though no company has been willing to offer prices so low.

In October, a liter of gasoline in Cambodia cost between 5,600 and 5,800 riel (U.S. $1.37 and $1.41), but recently the price has dropped to between 4,200 and 4,500 riel (U.S. $1.02 and $1.10).

And more:
Sokimex, Thailand’s PTT and BVM in November agreed with the MoC to drop their average prices from more than 5,000 riel per litre to close to 4,700 riel per litre. Smaller petrol provider Savimex reduced its prices to about 4,400 riel per litre.

According to ministry spokesman Ken Ratha, fuel retailers have reduced prices three times since November, and regular gasoline prices are this week sitting at about 4,150 riel – ranging from 3,800 riel to 4,250 riel.

It might be worth checking out what is actually reported next time, rather than relying on gossip.

I'm on my phone. I'm not about to start googling it and trying to find news videos in Khmer (which is what originally interested me). Secret squirrel said he heard the claims over a Khmer news outlets, so I asked for a link because I wanted to see it for myself.

Anyways, that link helps clarify things.

Wifey told me that hE requested the companies to lower the price to 2500/lr. Kind of weird since he has controlling shares in some of the companies, iirc.
