Requirements for Opening a Banking Account in Cambodia for Expats?

Post by Ronny »

Ok, guys, just another question. What are the requirements for opening a banking account in Cambodia? Rumor has it that you can open an account at Canadia Bank by only showing a passport with a valid visa and by depositing $200 or more. Is that true? Thanks in advance, guys.

Plenty of threads on this, plus most banks list the requirements on their websites also.

I have opened bank accounts with Acleda, Canadia and ABA. I highly recommend ABA, very helpful and professional staff, great online banking system and mobile app, choice of Visa, UnionPay or MasterCard Debit cards which can be used overseas and for online purchases. They also have plenty of ATMs and branches around the country.

Requirements for opening ABA account;
- Valid passport & MEEV (although I know a few people who have opened accounts with Tourist visa also)
- Lease agreement or local phone number (have heard of people not having to provide this)
- Minimum opening balance $50 - 100 depending on type of account.

ABA will open a savings account for you with ten bucks and a passport. In SHV they did, anyhow

Same in the branch opposite Aeon Mall in PP. I took my lease with me but don't think they needed it.

The accounts that offer you credit facilities are the ones that are probably the more strict, just having a savings a/c with fairly piddly interest and a log book is no skin off their noses. I went in expecting to need $100 and my deeds or something but no.

I agree with PSD-Kiwi. I opened an account with ABA in Battambang and very helpful staff. They even phoned me, to keep me up to date on a money transfer. Maybank turned me down for a account! The reason I had a business visa, and no business. Canadia I needed someone who had a account with them to verify me.

Do HSBC have any brances in Cambodia? I have heard it's the best international account to have for Vietnam etc. Countries where it's hard to get your money out of the country without having to dot all the i's and cross all the t's.
If so, does anyone know the conditions of opening an account here?

citibank is the best international bank for money transfer, virtually free transfer everywhere from citi to citi, and they have branches in 130+ countries, even other international banks route through citi, and best for support, u open in 1 country, u go to another and hv problem they will assist, no questions asked
Money is not the problem, the problem is no money
