I have been banned 4 or 5 times and readily admit there are times I would have been further ahead to walk away than tell someone what I think of them. My positive rating is about 66%, obviously if 2 out of every 3 swings at the bat I hit the ball I must be contributing in some way. What makes the perfect poster? Is it the one who seeks the cheapest bj in PP without insulting anyone? The guy that's total contribution is downloading funny pictures ( in his opinion) of the interweb and sharing them? Or Mr. Mashed Potatoes that have never had an enlightened moment in his life but post agreement with whatever someone else says?

My profile page has a button that I can use to block people. I use it. Though not as much or as often as I could. I take my lumps when they are given Perhaps I should learn to take insults from strangers and not return them, perhaps I should learn not to call others out on what I believe to be hypocritical. However, that is not my nature and I doubt it will happen. Not just online but in real life I am afraid.

The world is populated by many kinds of people and people tend to flock in groups of likeminded. The nexus of this forum is an interest in the KOW. Many different types, ages and incomes share the same interest. If it were to become solely for sexpats, Khmer language buffs or Mr Mashed Potataoes types I doubt I would continue to show an interest. Life is a buffet, I may not like everything I sample, I may have some favourites but I have no desire to eat the same meal every day.

you know after over 10 years here, often working for weeks at a time in Provinces where nobody speaks English it absolutely never occurred to me it might be of benefit to learn Khmer. I’ve just interrogated the other half on this matter, and while I wait for the thumbscrews and bamboo shards to dry off, I’m going to add my somewhat uneducated take on this.

Dob (ten) but the B is not wholly enunciated. The best I can offer as an analogy might be when someone drops their ‘t’ on a word.
Such as That becomes tha’. Not necessarily the best example, but as close as I can get.

Dop. (Bottle). But the vowel is slightly extended. Daub, but with a ‘p’, which is itself not quite enunciated. But not as long as daub, not as short as dop.

A matter of dialect, maybe, and now the source of angst among strangers? Or us relying on a wholly exact transliteration of a foreign language with its own well established alphabet?

I find I often have to get folk here to repeat things many times, and in my paranoid state, am convinced that with each repeat, the pronunciation has changed. Maybe I just need more time for my ear to adjust.

Have you heard Khmer pronounce ‘sh’? The maniac in me gets much amusement from listening to friends and family mispronounce my lad’s name- Joshua.

Let’s not get entirely bent out of shape on these things, and miss the bigger picture. Which John has alluded to on more than one occasion. We’re guest here, and ought to have a modicum of humility about us. It’s a fine line.

If you say them right you're saying neither b or p as all end in a labial stop that is basically indistinguishable between our b and p so who gives a flying fuck which one you use on the internet.

I saw many shops in Siem Reap with their address spelled with Siem Reab on their signs. I chuckled, because explorer speaks Khmer better than Cambodians.
