Regional geo politics and the military
It appears to me that the recent activities of China almost guarantee a return of the USA to Subic, Clark bases in Philippines.
The recent drilling in the waters of Vietnam by China, and subsequent anti China riots, with wholesale exodus of Chinese sweatshops to Cambodia make it highly likely that Vietnam will lease Cam Ranh Bay to USN.
Only impact here is pochentong cham chao building out like a beehive.
That is all.

After 50 years plus of US occupation and imperialist expansion, is China doing something so terrible?

The neighbours will be offering a lot of inducements to Uncle Sam to come for a protracted visit now that China is actively land grabbing.
They are fucking around with Philippine fishermen regularly now- as well as increasing military construction on the shoals and reefs of the Spratly group.
I am not trying to propagandise for or against either side- only pointing out that it is all coming to a head over the past few weeks, and predicting a likely outcome.

Yes, I think American tax payers should protect other countries and charge them for it. So much for each soldier/sailor (and his retirement fund), so much for each ship, bullet, weapon, airplane, etc. Turn it from a drain on the US tax payer to a money making business. "Yes, we accept gold as payment." Or oil, minerals, diamonds, gems, etc. If they don't want to pay, walk away and let them pay for their own protection.

Philippines maybe ---- Vietnam has already moved in a Pro-China direction since the drilling provocations last year. Was a divide inside Vietnam government -- Pro-Chinese side seems to have won out for now anyway.frank lee bent wrote:It appears to me that the recent activities of China almost guarantee a return of the USA to Subic, Clark bases in Philippines.

Taxi, we'd rather walk. Huddle a doorway with the rain dogs
