Regarding login name and being anonymous

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I like the fact anonymity affords you the right to spout off about [Admin Edit: Seriously... enough with the racial slurs Jonno] all day safe in the knowledge the filthy cunts can't hunt you down and attack you

getting lots of opinions here, great.
i prefer being accountable for what i say an write, an if someone knows i said something, i don't mind,
no reason, as the above poster stated, to be Anonymous so i can say things i wouldn't say with my name connected.

But that's just me, ( hence reason i stay out of many threads)

It's a bit of a minefield. I created an exact copy of someone I didn't like's account on Facebook with pictures, likes, groups etc. Then I posted all sorts of hilarious comments that could get you arrested in many countries, so now if anyone searches for his name they'll see his plans for white supremacy and gay-bashing in all their glory. The bigoted twat.

Also doing that could get you arrested in many countries. Sued in many more and beaten to a pulp in the rest of them. And you think Facebook haven't logged everything whilst you made that site etc..
It wouldn't be hard to link back to you unless you took a lot of precautions.

funny;
in the other new forum, (living in Cambodia), most users post their names an photos while here...

The forums are very different in scope, appeal and number of members that actively post

That's exactly what I said at the start of this thread. Many people feel the need to stay out of many threads for fear of coming off like a jerk to people they know in person because they may hold opinions that may offend some other's sensibilities. When people don't posts real, honest opinions without self-censorship, the forum dies

You know Soi, I just realised you are 100% right.There is a bit of a kerfuffle down here at the moment about a manager that has gone AWOL without paying the bills. Without going into details, I know both the manager and the owner. I know and see both sides of the argument. I know and am good friends with all of the people who are demonizing the manager. While I don't agree with what he has done, I don't agree with the position he was put in by the owner either. The argument is on FB and I use my own name on it. I would like to say something contrary to popular opinion, but if I do, I will lose some friends because this is such an emotive issue. Normally I wouldn't give a shit, but these are people I respect and I value their friendship. While I don't disagree with them, I don't 100 % agree with their stance on this issue either. So i chose not to say anything. And those that know me know that wasn't an easy choice. The other side of me however probably wouldn't let me be critical of someone anonymously. Sometimes this social media is a fuckn pain in the fukn arse ay

i think it comes down to the person. there weren't many on 440, as regulars, who didn't know who i was in person. even bonez, who fb stalks me while i have no idea who he is, has posted my photo on there before. it's not something i care about. i would still say what i have to say on 99.9% of subjects that i disagree/etc with the 'party line' on over there. same has gone on many other things. in fact, hotdigr here actually had to warn me off of a fb comment i left on a s'ville group and convince me to delete it because i was putting my neck out with the local blueshirts in it if they read it.

sort of always been a part of who i am, online and in person, that i will speak my mind on a subject. there are times i'll self censor, when i think not doing so is going to actually hurt a friend/etc, otherwise i am who i am.
