Recent Experiences with Traffic Police

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. For sure, the finest police money can buy will be out pulling everyone, Khmer included with feverish vigor to make sure extra beer, wine and food on the table for the coming NY. I just wish the gov would pay them better standard wages then they wouldn't need so much top up's.

The SHV men in blue were in the parking of the condo where I live earlier. They were apparently looking for a foreigner who did a hit and run with his car :dragonchase:

The last few days I've driven past the Lions roundabout in SHV there's only been one cop there, up on what's now Occheuteal road none of the foreigners tooling about have had helmets on. I've been a good boy and kept my seat-belt on, so not had to chat.

Seriously? Complaining about getting pulled over for running a "small" red light (whatever a small red light is) or passengers not wearing a helmet? I really do hope the police gets serious, it will make all our lives safer.

who was complaining? i told him i would pay the fine if he wrote me a ticket but he refused and asked me to bribe him, did you read the post? the small red lights are the little ones on the side of the street they have here in SHV that you only really see if you you know where they are, i knew it was there but i also know its also pretty dangerous stopping at one too, just seeing one corpse is enough but ive seen more than that

I got pulled yesterday in the truck just outside Kampong Svay. Thought they would ticket me as I was travelling at an average of 110kmph.

Once they saw I was a paleface, they said in English "ok ghost, ghost" waving me on. I replied in Khmer "ghost! Where?" And left them looking kind of confused.

It seems that you guys get pulled over all the time??? Is that the norm in Cambodia?

I lived in Thailand for a few years, and have only been pulled over once, the second time wasn't so much as getting pulled over but the police being present at a traffic 'incident'......

My old man has been there 30 years, I am pretty sure he would be hard pressed to recall the last time he was pulled over... (in Phuket)...

Just curious.
