Pulled off our moto by bag snatcher in Kep

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Whenever you read about barangs in Kep lately, they are either getting pulled off or going psycho and murdering massage ladies when they don't get pulled off.

Well done for turning that poor lady's death and my girlfriend's injury into a hilarious pun. Why not come down to Kep and start telling jokes about the girl who got killed? See how it goes down.

I posted this to warn people to stash their bags even in "nice" areas, not to get accused of lacking common sense or to invite bad-taste jokes ffs.

I slightly regret joining this forum, it seems to be largely frequented by the type of ex-pats who are only here because they are too ugly to get laid back home, and too useless to make any real money. After a few years in "paradise" they start to realise that paying for sex with people who find you repulsive while drinking yourself to death does not make for such a joyous life, so they become bitter as fuck. I see the pitiful bastards waddling around everywhere spouting their resentful nonsense to any poor fucker who has the misfortune to be in their vicinity. Hopefully the Chinese will price them out and the visa rules will tighten up so it will just be flash-packing digital nomads such as myself drinking lattes and being massively smug on account of having "escaped" the rat race. :lol1: Times are changing.

BTW we did report it to the police and a senior looking guy came round to our place and seemed to be taking it seriously.

Hey, chill out OP, one poster made a bad taste joke.
You're upset, but thats no reason to insult everyone on the forum. Any more than it would be to say that all Khmers are thieving bastards because you got robbed.

If you are two people on a motorbike, then put your bag between the driver and passenger - and never leave any straps dangling that can be easily grabbed. If the lady has a handbag then she should put it under the seat.

As an aside, I think my most violent confrontation with Cambodians was one night in Kep - motodops and tuktuk drivers charged up on whatever. It turned out ok but was sticky. Long time ago now, but it just goes to show that shit happens everywhere.

You can't, all you can do is take precautions. The people doing this always go for soft targets. It's much easier to steal from a foreigner. You'll often hear of women or couples getting their bags snatched. Elderly people and smaller groups of tourists are easy targets too. They know if they hit on locals the locals will put up a fight and make sure everyone in the vicinity is informed quickly. I've never had anyone try to mug me here, but then I know not to wander around the wrong places in the wrong time or state. People get complacent here, sure most of the people you meet are very friendly and nice, but like anywhere there are quite a few more offensive types too. I wouldn't like to wander around my own neighborhood late at night if I didn't know where I was going, couldn't speak Khmer and didn't know many people nearby etc. If I'm really drunk I'll make sure to get driven home by a driver I know or trusted service, the drivers I know will wait until I'm inside my gate. There's a reason why my wall has razor wire on it and my windows and doors are all built like prison style. 8-)

Well, with the po-faced, salty, sand-in-the-vag flash-packing digital nomads, drinking lattes and being massively smug on account of having "escaped" the rat race who come unglued and reveal their contempt for their fellow ex-pats when one makes a joke, you can just laugh at their precious yet impotent rantings and then ignore them.

As for thieves, just be careful and exercise the kind of diligence one should do in all third world countries at all times. Which is pretty close to the kind of diligence you should exercise in large parts of many cities in the west. :hattip:

Well, thanks for responding to an off-colour joke by one member by being a really superior wannabe arsehole yourself. The door is not locked.
