Psychological study says internet trolls show all the signs
THEY go to bed in the morning light. Their friends and family wonder when they’re gunna live their lives right.
They’re the internet’s trolls.
Apologies to Cyndi Lauper, but when it comes to such dreaded social media monsters — they just want to have fun.
The sadistic kind.
A review of two psychological studies published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences delved deeply into the personalities of social media mavens. Some 1200 of them, in fact.
The finding was stark.
Their behaviour had nothing at all to do with discussions, debating, or even particularly-strongly held beliefs.
“Both trolls and sadists feel sadistic glee at the distress of others,” the report states. “Sadists just want to have fun ... and the internet is their playground.”
