Promoting a novel about cambodia - in Cambodia
Re: Promoting a novel about cambodia - in Cambodia
Thanks for the input Yongchi.
I'm trying to attract readers in the SEA region because the expat (or English literate locals) are much more likely to respond than if the novel's setting was, say, Ecuador. I, too, will be more partial to reading a novel if it is set in Japan or East Asia, as I can monitor the culture and geography. I self-published another novel a few years back, starring the Philippines as a locale, and sales did reasonably well in that country (I managed to get a newspaper interview there, which helped considerably, but I have heard that the English newspapers in Cambodia are in their death throes or thereabouts).
I have a Goodreads page (always a good suggestion) and the book is up there too: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/438 ... ed-parties
I am very social media shy and, yes, that can be a major headache when trying to promote, get reviews etc. (I do have friends and interested parties currently reading it but don't want to badger them for reviews.). I don't use FB, Twitter, Instagram, or even Linked In. I did once, but they started to manage me rather than the other way round.
Your free KDP run looks like a good option. One point of consideration however, is that the publisher has some control over the site and distribution but, so far, they've been amenable to my suggestions.
One wider question, what are some good examples of recent fiction that have used Cambodia as a backdrop?

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
