US Professor Heidi Hoefinger Examines the Idea of ‘Professional Girlfriends’ in Cambodia

MORE
2. Women's Network for Unity is a political organization, well intentioned, no doubt. I can find no hint of any practical services they offer to practicing bar girls or a shred of evidence of their presence anywhere near PP girly bars. My bg friend has considerably more than 2 or 3 bg friends. None of them have ever heard of Women's Network for Unity or its listed affiliates.
BTW do you have a phone for them??

Sorry Stroppy , but the moral angle is not the one they need, just in case you think it is. I have never heard your POV on it so forgive me if I got it wrong.. Someone give them a better opportunity BEFORE they have to sell their pussy. If they still want to do it after they have that opportunity meh it's up to them. After all prostitutes offer a valuable service. Just let's try and make sure it is as clean and safe for all parties concerned.

Seems like a reasonable discussion - and people (including Christians) are doing that, too.juansweetpotato wrote:Are you crappin me?Username Taken wrote:Then there's Daughters of Cambodia, an NGO.

The whole orphanage approach has also changed to supporting kids in their real families (so, supporting their families) to reduce vulnerability, loss of identity, abandonment etc. as most 'orphans' have at least one existing parent and an extended family network.
There's a bit of a cliched question among NGOers - do you want to work in prevention or recovery? Both are very valid options, and prevention is clearly a better idea than recovery, but just stating that doesn't remove the need for recovery options.
The NGOs we deal with are not food-for-faith organisations, all of them present the Gospel as they see it (and none of them perfectly) but none of them require a 'conversion', real or otherwise, in exchange for their support. There are obviously many NGOs that clearly ARE food-for-faith exchanges - I don't recognise them as truly Christian endeavours, and neither do the people we work alongside.
Your thoughts?

It doesn't seem reasonable for me to say that that which can help them out of a terrible situation ( If they feel that way) is bad. Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Jainist, Animist whatever. Some desperately poor people need help. Most preferably from their own f'in governments. Then maybe they can start complaining about who is changing their religion and there wouldn't be a need for people like yourself to step in in the first place.
Any organizations whose aim is first and foremost to convert, I think that is bullshit.
One thing is for sure, once you've opened your legs to 75000 UKP pa in the Middle East, it's f'n near impossible to go back to working at Beltie.
Also, when meeting friends on rare occasion at GSM or some such place, and a hard core, ice head prozzie comes up to me with the sob story, I like to tell them how I will take them to a Christian NGO that will look after them and retrain them for factory work. Good steady money I say. Become a 'good' girl again. You should see the look of terror in their eyes... Works every time

My thoughts are simple. If you want to do good, do it. It is nobody's business why you are doing good. Be it because you are religious, firmly secular or just in a good mood. While you are doing good, it is immoral to approach the people you are doing good for with any ideology at all. That is exploiting the vulnerable. It profoundly corrupts the good you have done and reflects a black spot on your heart which you should eliminate before doing more "good".
A true missionary would have confidence in the power of pure good works. He would wait quietly until one of the people he is helping starts an unbidden and unprompted conversation with him about what he believes in just an equal might. Then and only then is it morally acceptable to discuss belief. That is unlikely, but think how much the good you do while waiting will do for your soul.

That's a pretty good def, so is most of the other half of your post. With the addition that you had better do some good and long research before you decide how you can help. That way you have the better chance of success without all the hidden problems.Otis wrote:My thoughts are simple. If you want to do good, do it. It is nobody's business why you are doing good. Eg, I remember in Kenya there was a free education program for the underprivileged run by NGO's . Only problem was, they forgot that you need to buy your work position. End result has been that you now have some highly educated , extremely smart people roaming the streets without any chance of work. I wonder what they decide to do?

Oh Stroppy, were straying from the scared to the profoundly profane here. Do resume your devotions and repent.
But if the language of excrement is being spoken anywhere, I can find no more eloquent example of it than the below
