Winter coats issued to troops in B Meanchey

Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) deputy commander-in-chief HM distributed more than 12,000 winter coats on November 10 to the army, border police and Military Police in Military Region 5 for use in the coming winter.

Major General Chhun Mao, the first regional commander of Military Region 5 in Banteay Meanchey province, told The Post the winter coats were a precious gift. He said it showed the deep respect of the government for the armed forces, which are fulfilling their role of protecting the peace of the people and society.

“We are very pleased as the coat will provide comfort to our forces in conducting security patrols along the border,” he said.

Mao said the weather on the Cambodian-Thai border in Banteay Meanchey has dropped to 20 degrees Celsius with strong winds, especially between 5am and 8am.

According to a weather forecast from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology released on November 10, temperatures could drop to between 20C and 21C for the provinces adjacent to the Dangrek mountains range and northeastern highlands. In the central lowlands, temperatures could drop to between 21C and 23C, and in coastal provinces, it will hover between 22C and 24C.

And in what country does the military commander have to personally buy 12,000 winter coats to issue to the troops? Doesn’t that fall under basic military procurement?

20 degrees C sounds like the exact kind of winter I'm looking for. I'll even suffer through it without one of those military coats.

It doesn't actually say who bought them, it just says they were a "gift" , presumably from the government.

Her first response was to buy plastic super high heel pumps so her feet wouldn’t touch the cold ground. I told her to give those uncomfortable, dangerous slippers to her fashionable sister.

Temperature is only that low near midnight when the flight arrives. Otherwise 17 degrees C during the day.

Plus she gets a reason to use these clothes she bought for Taiwan (subtropical country), where she was preparing for low temperatures of 16 degrees C.

We didn't have winter coats even though it was minus five at night in the winter

I more apt term would be "they've been issued", but here they like to make things sound like "the benevolent king giveth you x". I'd like to see a picture of said coats. Surely a thin wind breaker would suffice.
