Population Pyramids of the World from 1950 to 2100

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It's yours. Do you have anything relevant to add to the post at hand?

No. But the link in the OP was interesting. Carry on.

even factory workers are in short supply.
they can resign from one place on a friday and hire back on by monday, and base rate is 245 now.
impossible to find anyone for minimum wage
Frank I do not doubt your numbers. But that $245. # base rate is over $100 PM for garment workers pay.
Gleaned from this article.
cambodiadaily.com/news/garment-sector-minimum-wage-raised-to-140-97018/

And then venerable HE said WTF, make it $145.00. Generous guy he.

May I inquire as your source?

Also,
''lots of degree holders in the building side of things are doing increasingly well.
Well yeah. Okhnas are always given special dispensation. It's always easier when rules do not apply to you. Degrees? What degrees & from where?

Sir, with all due respect. And no reflection on your gf. That is not a source as much as it is hype. There may be a token or two workers paid that amount in the garment, handbag or shoe industries. However I believe your mentioned advertised rate of pay is prolly BS to draw workers to said industries. (i.e. billboard ads). Promises of advancement, bennies, some even offer housing.

Here is a more believable scenario.

And again,

''lots of degree holders in the building side of things are doing increasingly well.

bayoubill wrote:"That's very depressing." Yes, it is, but most posters here lead lives isolated from the rural poor and have little, if anything at all, to do with the urban poor. They speak little or broken Cambodian since they immerse themselves in the expat communities. They mostly have "a gentleman's understanding" of the Khmer culture. Writings by people like Mr. Thayer serve as a good wakeup call.

Do you mean Nate Thayer or Carl Thayer?

"Do you mean Nate Thayer or Carl Thayer"

Nate. It was a clear reference to the quoted text furnished by Popeye.

And as for this, "However I believe your mentioned advertised rate of pay is prolly BS to draw workers to said industries. (i.e. billboard ads). Promises of advancement, bennies, some even offer housing."

There is a good possibility that the monthly salary quoted by Frank includes much overtime work performed by factory workers under Dickensian conditions.
