Poor Air Quality today

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Certainly noticeable in the Koh Pich area, buildings a couple of hundred metres away have a distinct desaturated look compared to normal

And that should be a good area with the breeze. Yesterday was riding the bike on the other side after the ferry from naga and could barely breathe. They are burning stuff everywhere.

So apart from the food, 12 year olds on scooters, mosquitoes with killer diseases, rice wine labelled up as vodka, bus drivers off their heads on meth, I now have to worry about air quality, KOW, !!!, I wonder every day how I am still alive

What causes the poor air quality? You look at the world map and it's only Asia which has these high levels

Exhaust fumes are a big impact. These high readings are typically in the morning at around 8am during the rush hour. Bangkok has horrendous reading around that time at certain locations.

Unfortunately, there is only one sensor here, it's over by Olympic Stadium so the data is not great. Most cities have dozens of monitors so the data is a bit more impressive.

But 154 is nasty, unhealthy for all.

Loads of (old) cars and trucks
Massive construction
Massive (and I mean MASSIVE) unfiltered rubbish burning outside of the main centers
Burning of leaves / grass etc in the countryside

and maybe the most important one:

No rain washing out the dust, so dust can build up for days or even weeks
