US politics topics and CEO

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Jeez... ffs. The introspection here reminds me of my woke friend's everyday conversations.

'Careful... it will send you mad and paralyse you from actually doing any real action.

Is the General sober yet?
(after his recent spitting rants i pray that was the reason - or, imo, this forum is forever fucked)

I have no trouble doing that and I don't need those topics to be hidden from view, but I can see how they could be off-putting to others who might have no interest whatsoever.
This is why personally, I would push a solution along the lines I've outlined earlier where ideally (subject to the system allowing for it) where 'The rest of the world' posts are NOT excluded at all from 'New posts'...rather, the Cambodia ones are bumped ahead of them to the top, or better still, 'New posts' is split between 'New posts: Cambodia' and 'New posts: Everything else' with the former on top (change wording of headings as appropriate).

This way, people who may be not terribly interested in US politics/Rest of the world generally BUT from time to time as you have mentioned do want to look at some can do so by scrolling down (some number of posts parameters would need to be set such that both categories aren't too long). Those that want to focus on them can do so by scrolling straight down and those that don't want to see them at all have no need to scroll down.

For 'Recent Topics', as things stand there's not much room there from the home page for any splits so I would be inclined to limit this to Cambodia related topics only.

Some might see such a suggestion as a bit Mickey Mouse but I think first impressions matter and what we'd be doing is not excluding nor hiding anything...just putting Cambodia first and foremost as it should be imo for all viewers whether member or not, newbie or long time poster. A meaningful improvement imho. But hey, I'm not admin.. your views @General Mackevili ?

form above
"New posts: Cambodia' and 'New posts: Everything else' with the former on top (change wording of headings as appropriate).
and like i asked 2 pages ago, where does

tech, sports talk, video & entertainment, Asinine
under Cambodia or non cambodia

hey as it seems the mods are all from the same cut ( as is the gen who does not even live in Cambodia, (
there's also far too many members who don't live in Cambodia,
so will he, new kid, me, Blue jean, alex etc not be allowed to post? ) And many more dont live there but have some sort of ties there
that us politics is too dominate so a change is coming

its their call

once u start excluding posters who dont live in Cambodia its going to be a very boring dead end forum with nobody havking anything new to say

as to less threads on Cambodia, once u have been here/there 2, 4, 10+ years there is nothing you want to ask

I would think those (bolded) above would be non Cambodia but that would be up to Admin. Main thing would be to have The Rest of the World (incl political topics) in non Cambodia.

And now that you raise it PR, where do you think 'Thailand News and Discussion' should be in? Cambodia or non Cambodia?

of course non

so basically u would have a choice and which can be set as ur default so u dont need always click it

Cambodia only
OR
ALL
which would also include;

Thailand
Rest of the world
Sports
Video &
Asinine
On the road, as it states, (Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.)

Not really. There would be nothing to click. Imagine the current page of new posts. The change would be the top half is Cambodian, the bottom half Non Cambodian. A further enhancement could be having a non clickable heading eg Cambodia and Other (or words to that effect) just to show the sorting separation. Only a certain number of new posts in Cambodia section tho coz otherwise the Non Cambodia posts will be 'lost' at the bottom and users will otherwise have to scroll too much.

If it's possible to see both types of new posts on a single page that would be great coz you never know what interesting topics there may be in each.

Imagine if there was a settings icon on the new posts / active threads page where one could simply select which forums to show content from.

I suppose this could be stored as a user setting if phpbb has that I'm not familiar with it, or simply a cookie, and then applied on each page load.

Then everyone would be happy including those who wants only the political threads on their new posts page

First thing I do is click on Active topics - then select the ones I am interested in reading. Does your proposed reorganization change the way I would see this?

I rather despise politics and the players involved, imo the political topics(all of them) are easily avoidable when the title is clear and in the right section(The Rest of the World), my problem over the years, and what I think has led to the downfall of many expat/travel forums, is the interjection of politics in threads that have nothing to do with politics.

Maybe tof got it right with the Argue in circles political thread.
