police clearance check- teach in cambodia
How important is it to have a police clearance check to teach in Cambodia? a few schools never asked... one school asked and when started they didn't even bother w/ it..
I was thinking its like when a guesthouse/hotel says " no girls, drugs".. they put sign up to cover themselves and then you just do what you do.... as long as its nothing crazy
My other thought is that the school would do its own check. Why would they trust a person to bring a real background check certificate?? ..

In my opinion, all teachers/persons working with children should have background checks completed.
Re: police clearance check- teach in cambodia
i agree. I wanted to know if the schools would cover those costs

Schools in Cambodia don't do any criminal record checks. I'd imagine the real schools require one, but most don't. They certainly won't pay for one for a prospective employee.
Hope school employing a fugitive child abuser is a good example. Apparently they didn't even bother to look at the guy's passport.
Why would they trust someone to bring a CRC? Well, if employment is contingent on supplying CRC, then why would someone fly to another country to live and work without one?

good points... .. but to follow your train of thought-- if someone was a child abuser and/or have a serious criminal record AND wanted to work, they would create whatever they needed to online and bring it...but yea seems a bit much
when you say "real schools" --- you mean like Northbridge, ISPP?

If a school requires teachers to provide a criminal background check (which of course is not possible for those of us who are not criminals), they should likewise in kind submit to the teachers a criminal background check to prove that the school, its owners and directors have a clean record.

i wouldn't care if school directors had a clean record or whatever.. as long as they pay on time!.. unless your including that as "clean record"
anyone start a yelp page for schools and issues they had or not had.. good vs bad experiences..?? would be of interest but suppose people do that on here in a more loose way

Not impossible to fake, I'm sure, but they're easily verified.BklynBoy wrote:good points... .. but to follow your train of thought-- if someone was a child abuser and/or have a serious criminal record AND wanted to work, they would create whatever they needed to online and bring it...but yea seems a bit much

Yes, real schools.

Yes, but they should be submitting those to moeys.

The problem is not the checks. The problem the complete disregard shown by school owners and administrators for the duty of care their schools, as a part of the community, are obliged to provide to children.
Cost, difficulty, ignorance. All shithouse excuses for putting children at risk if you ask me.
Re: police clearance check- teach in cambodia
Provable verification nowadays means Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA). Otherwise, it is not "provable" verification but more "cargo-cult" verification. If you cannot verify, you could as well just admit it, instead of pretending that you can. We do not need more security theatre.
It's like with banks. They do have equipment to check the verification elements in dollar bills. However, they cannot verify passports, id cards, driving licenses and other such documents. It is make-believe. They are not capable of verifying, because provable verification brings us back to ECDSA, of which the lambda bank staff does not even know the existence. So, bankers cannot verify, not even to save themselves from drowning. Why should we expect school staff to be able to verify?
The problem ARE the checks. Unless they are provable, or at least falsifiable, all these checks just represent a ridiculous cargo cult, aka, security theater. Why would we need substantially more bullshit?epidemiks wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2017 11:17 pmThe problem is not the checks. In that case they were extremely negligent, employing a teacher who was using an alias that didn't even check with his given name. It's not difficult to do a search for criminal records online either, although it may incur a small fee. There have been plenty of cases of pedophiles working as teachers here, but very few have actually abused their students, they have been caught abusing minors outside their campuses. A background check might come up with some damning information, but many pedophiles don't have previous criminal records.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
