Now that firearms are far less common in Australia, we resort to the tire iron when required in the bush. It's adequate.Joker Poker wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 1:00 pm Got to my car and put the fuel in drove to where the roo was and shot it and dragged it off the road. This was back in the 80s when firearms were fairly prolific, so I had a .22 magnum sitting in the boot.
I felt the poor thing needed to be put out of its misery as it was pretty smashed up. I no longer have firearms, so I have no idea what I'd do in the same/similar situation.

Cheers Stroppy,
You spelled tyre like a Mexican!
Yep,a tyre lever, as they used to be known in SA, would be pretty effective in the right hands. I don't think too many would be packing them in their cars though. I've never carried them. When I lived out bush, I carried two spares though - and needed them at times.

Not much point carrying spares in the bush without a TYRE iron.

Re: Please save the cat!
I meant I carried two spare wheels with tyres on them. Where I was living there were some 'community' tyre levers that were welded to chains on one end, tethered to the concrete so they wouldn't be stolen. I did have to use them a few times and the community air compressor - it had an air hose that came through a locked galvanised iron door, adequate for inflating the odd repairs. I don't miss those days...StroppyChops wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 1:34 pmHeh! You wouldn't be the first person to carry one in your pants leg and long boots when you went to the pub. That's a Mongrel Mob idea.
